Presentation: 12 oz clear bottle that has gold foil on top, no freshness date to be found.

Appearance: Deep reddish brown chestnut in colour with a caked on lace.

Smell: Nutty aroma ... a mix of sweet and grain with a hint of butterscotch.

Taste: Smooth with a creamy textured mouth feel coming from the medium body. Sweet up front then leaning more towards dryish nutty finish. There is an underlying buttery flavour from the Yorkshire yeast and a sufficing hop bitterness that seem to do a good job of putting the missing pieces together for this brew.

Notes: Truly one of the best brown ales in the world ... this is the cast and mold for lots of brewers trying to come up with a nut-brown ale. The lasting nutty finish leaves a pleasing hazelnut or walnut aftertaste.

Brown-copper pour, tan one finger fluffy head
Not much nuttiness in the smell, maybe a tiny hint of salted peanuts, faint chocolate, rich caramel, some dark malts, dark bread. Not complex.
Dark chocolate taste, caramel, dark roasted grains with a smokey note, then dark fruit with raisin and plum (a bit of sour lemons too), faint vanilla. Nuts are more obvious than in the smell, pretty diverse (chestnuts, walnuts, faint almonds, salty peanuts). Leafy English hops, mild bitterness. Roasted nuts and malts in the aftertaste.
Light body, medium carbonation, a bit smooth.
Tasty, great example of the style, tho i expected a dustier feel and less dark fruit.

550 ML bottle served very cold in glass beer challis

A) Clear mahogany brown, short off white head that turns lacy very quickly. Appears a bit flat but actually isn't.
S) Sweet orange peel, baked sour dough bread, coriander
T) Mild hops, toffee, sweet citrus fruit.
M) Ample carbonation, sticky sweet, mild bitter finish
O) An outstanding beer that is easy enough to find here in Chicago.
