Brewed with well water (the original well at the Old Brewery, sunk in 1758, is still in use, with the hard well water being drawn from 85 feet underground); best barley malt, yeast and aromatic hops; fermented in ‘stone Yorkshire squares’ to create a relatively dry ale with rich nutty colour and palate of beech nuts, almonds and walnuts.

A: Lovely translucent walnut brown with dark amber showing against the light. A nice clean, light head that fairly quickly dissipated to a thin ring which left a nice spotty lacing as it is consumed. Carbonation is light but visible.

S: Nutty (obviously) but aromatic - reminds me of their Oatmeal Stout

T: Light and clean. Tasty and well balanced. Nutty with a hoppy aftertaste that is very satisfying. Great tasting quality beer. Although it is thinner than a stout, even the taste seems to have a stout meatiness to it - real substantial.

M: Clean, smooth. Carbonation was perfect for me. Really like the strong finish - just keeps giving.

D: Once I get into the nut brown zone, I could put a few of these away. Very drinkable and enjoyable. Again, Samuel Smith has not disappointed me.

I am stating to drink beer with my eyes. I have been sampling several dark beers as of late and this one did it too as well as my beloved Guinness stout.
This brew gets a very high score and I can see why after letting it settle and warm up a bit .
There are subtle aromas and tastes that l find hard to describe albeit very pleasant.

Beautiful ruby brown and perfectly clear. Nice frothy finger or two of tan head from the can.

Sweet malty English yeast on the nose

Ever so slightly syrupy, low carb feel.

Malt covered biscuit with a touch of honey covered burnt toast.

Strongly sweet and molasses-y aroma. Rapidly dissipating head. Clear dark amber. Mouthfeel is somehow both light and syrupy. Very little aftertaste. Delicious

poured from a 550mL bottle into a half pint glass. pours dark maroon to light brown with a big khaki colored head. amaretto and a slight nutty chocolate on the nose. taste follows. it’s simple but it’s fully flavored, especially for 5%. medium-full mouthfeel. finishes a little watery. pretty classic nut brown.

Chestnut brown with dense off-white head, good retention, rings of lacing
Smells like toasted nuts and raisins
Tastes like toasted hazelnuts, cocoa, and raisins
Medium bodied and appropriately carbonated, almost goes down too easy
Nice easy drinker for cooler nights
