A: This beer pours a clear, deep copper/ruby color with a dense light tan head. Excellent head retention and lacing.
S: There's a lot going on in this beer. There's a pronounced deep malty aroma with notes of chocolate, caramel, and a nutty bread crust. there's also a subtle hint of dark fruit coming through amidst a noble earthy hop. A tiny alcohol aroma tingles the nose in a most pleasant way.
T: Beautiful toffee and caramel sweetness explodes on the palate with a subtle cream flavor. A small raisiny flavor competes with the mild hop bitterness. There's also a nice tang that dances across the back of the tongue and finishes semi dry. Low to medium carbonation fits well.
M: A bit fuller body than a typical northern English brown that fit's this beers complexity.
O: This is one of my favorite English ales. It has everything an English brown ale should and then some. Do yourself a favor... Pour this brew and try it cold but let it warm and take another sip every few minutes to fully appreciate the complexity of this supreme being.

550 ML bottle served very cold in glass beer challis
A) Clear mahogany brown, short off white head that turns lacy very quickly. Appears a bit flat but actually isn't.
S) Sweet orange peel, baked sour dough bread, coriander
T) Mild hops, toffee, sweet citrus fruit.
M) Ample carbonation, sticky sweet, mild bitter finish
O) An outstanding beer that is easy enough to find here in Chicago.
