The beer pours a dark muddy brown, and sits in the glass as black with a very dirty white/tan head full of rocky bubbles that sit at about a quarter of a fingers’ width. In the light this beer has a dark murky body with a mahogany hue. The beer’s lacing is thin and slippery dry, leaving splotches of foam on the sides of the glass. On the nose, the beer smells of chocolate cocoa powder with a caramelly, milk chocolate smoothness to the smell. There is also a very faint tartness to the back of the smell as well as a touch of creamy coffee and roasted malt. On the tongue, the beer tastes sweetly rich and creamy with milk chocolate goodness. The taste begins with sweet and slightly tart chocolate covered raisins, though the fruit flavor is light. This opens into warm and rich milk chocolate flavors with touches of roast and sweet creamy caramel. The finish is long with the creamy chocolate and caramel and though the after taste is very light with roast malt and a watery feeling. On the mouth, the beer feels medium in body with a bit of a thicker finish. It is rich and creamy and velvety on the tongue. The mouth is left clean, coated with a slight sticky sweetness. Overall, this beer is delicious. This is the first chocolate beer I can comfortably say that they have nailed the chocolate flavor on. I’ve liked others. This beer perfects it. Creamy milk chocolate with some lovely subtleties and complexities. This beer is a must try.

Poured a deep brown with a slight tan head that last throughout the beer. Great retention. The aroma is rich cocoa. It almost is too much, but doesn't quite cross that line. The taste has a little bit more balance against the malt bill but the cocoa notes come through quite strong here as well. It has a nice mouthfeel and weight on the palate. If you don't like chocolate beer, you will not like this one.

Live review. Poured from the 550 mL bottle that my brother in law Bruce bought at Save On Tobacco & Beverage in Mentor, Ohio about a month ago. He then gave it to me after a party that he hosted. Thanks Bruce! Price tag on the bottle cap announces "3.99." Stamp on neck of bottle indicates "SI27M1" although I do not observe a "best by" date anywhere on the bottle.

A Great medium brown two inch head over a ver dark body that glows a deep mahogany in front of direct light. Nice look. 4.0

S Gentle stout with nice milk chocolate sweetness. I don't know about anyone else, but this is the best "chocolate stout" smell that I have encountered. 4.5

T Great smell carries right over into the taste. Dark roast malt is classically prepared (I would not expect anything else from Samuel Smith/Tadcaster) and the chocolate is the perfect companion that it was meant to be in all of the chocolate stouts that I have had before this one. THIS is how it is supposed to be done. Bravo! 5.0

M Smooth as silk feel that slips over my tongue and down my throat with ease. That was not always experienced with other chocolate stouts. There is a slight "heat" of alcohol on the back of my tongue and a hint of bitterness but the chocolately smoothness wins over. 4.5

D/O Drinkability is incredibly good. Overall this is a world class Chocolate Stout. In keeping with my traditions, I have not read any other review. It will interest me to see what the BA community thinks. 4.5

Poured from a 22oz into a nonic pint. It has a great appearance almost black with low transparency and a 3/4 inch off white head. It has a delightful milk chocolate/dark chocolate nose. It has a nice creamy chocolate taste. It has a creamy mouth feel with a wet finish. Overall a very enjoyable chocolate stout.
