Borderline black in color, this dark brown beer filters out all light. Topped by a cream colored, finger width thick head that looks soft enough to double as a pillow. No noticeable carbonation or lacing.

Most beers require getting up close and personal to gather a good sniff - not so here! This one fills the nostrils. Heavy cream and chocolate milk - reminds me of mixing Hershey's chocolate syrup with milk. Thick molasses, almost cavity-inducing and cocoa nibs galore! Has a powder like quality to it.. the overall package is very aromatic and potent.

Incredibly sweet! After each sip I found myself both enjoying and cringing at the sweetness. Oddly enough, it's the presence of the alcohol I notice first. It's upfront and not masked well, but adds surprisingly character. Chocolate lovers rejoice! Thick, sweet chocolate attacks your taste buds from beginning to end. Molasses and heavy cream crank the sweetness to 11.

Thick body with plenty of carbonation. Extra creamy. Sweetness stabs your tongue from beginning to end. Easy to drink at first but the sweetness slowly starts to overwhelm the senses. Best enjoyed one small sip at a time.

I find myself surprised by the fact that I enjoyed this considering I do not like stuff this sweet - I typically avoid them. That said, it's not a beer I'd seek out often but highly recommend checking this one out at least once because it's definitely a unique experience.

Live review. Poured from the 550 mL bottle that my brother in law Bruce bought at Save On Tobacco & Beverage in Mentor, Ohio about a month ago. He then gave it to me after a party that he hosted. Thanks Bruce! Price tag on the bottle cap announces "3.99." Stamp on neck of bottle indicates "SI27M1" although I do not observe a "best by" date anywhere on the bottle.

A Great medium brown two inch head over a ver dark body that glows a deep mahogany in front of direct light. Nice look. 4.0

S Gentle stout with nice milk chocolate sweetness. I don't know about anyone else, but this is the best "chocolate stout" smell that I have encountered. 4.5

T Great smell carries right over into the taste. Dark roast malt is classically prepared (I would not expect anything else from Samuel Smith/Tadcaster) and the chocolate is the perfect companion that it was meant to be in all of the chocolate stouts that I have had before this one. THIS is how it is supposed to be done. Bravo! 5.0

M Smooth as silk feel that slips over my tongue and down my throat with ease. That was not always experienced with other chocolate stouts. There is a slight "heat" of alcohol on the back of my tongue and a hint of bitterness but the chocolately smoothness wins over. 4.5

D/O Drinkability is incredibly good. Overall this is a world class Chocolate Stout. In keeping with my traditions, I have not read any other review. It will interest me to see what the BA community thinks. 4.5

Poured from a 22oz into a nonic pint. It has a great appearance almost black with low transparency and a 3/4 inch off white head. It has a delightful milk chocolate/dark chocolate nose. It has a nice creamy chocolate taste. It has a creamy mouth feel with a wet finish. Overall a very enjoyable chocolate stout.
