Brewed with well water (the original well, sunk in 1758, is still in use with the hard water is drawn from 85 feet underground), the gently roasted organic chocolate malt and real organic cocoa used in this ale impart a delicious, smooth and creamy character, with inviting deep flavours and a delightful finish - this is the perfect marriage of satisfying stout and luxurious chocolate that will lead to smiles and refills. Samuel Smith's brews in traditional coppers, uses stone 'Yorkshire Squares' for fermentation, and ships every bottle from the brewery with great pride.

From a 550 ml bottle into a Samuel Smith pint glass

A: deep brown in color with a fluffy three finger head that is slightly off white. The head breaks slowly leaving decent lacing and a good foamy film.

S: heavy on the cocoa and chocolate, a sweetness comes straight across.

T: chocolate, some faint coffee, sweetness through and through.

M: lighter than I would have expected. Good carbonation and a little slick.

O: quite nice, perhaps a little sweeter than I was expecting, but it is a nice beer. Definitely not sessionable though.

Samuel Smith's Organic Chocolate Stout, with Theobroma Cacao. 5% ABV

A: A finger's head, which is... Antique White, I guess. Medium brown with red tone at the bottom of the glass. Dark brown, with red tint shooting up the center. Good, solid lacing.

S: Plenty of dark cocoa flavor. Faint, sweet licorice. Sweet, creamer-like notes.

T/MF: Lightly roasted coffee. Touch of dark cocoa. Slightly sweet. Nice tingle from light carbonation.

Pretty good.

Poured from a 16.9 oz. bottle, into a Petrus chalice.

This is the first "dessert beer I've ever had.

Right from the get go, chocolate, chocolate and more chocolate yet not overwhelming.

Poured in a clear pint glass the colour was dark brown to black with a creamy chocolate malt coloured head.

The nose is a blend of dark chocolate and cacao.

The taste is amazing. Dark chocolate, a nice balance of malts, nice hints of caramel.

Mouthfeel is round and balanced

This stout can easily be a great ending to a meal.
