Notes/Commercial Description:
Brewed with well water (the original well, sunk in 1758, is still in use with the hard water is drawn from 85 feet underground), the gently roasted organic chocolate malt and real organic cocoa used in this ale impart a delicious, smooth and creamy character, with inviting deep flavours and a delightful finish - this is the perfect marriage of satisfying stout and luxurious chocolate that will lead to smiles and refills. Samuel Smith's brews in traditional coppers, uses stone 'Yorkshire Squares' for fermentation, and ships every bottle from the brewery with great pride.

Purchased a bomber from Whole foods cranbrook (ann arbor) For 4.99$ :) Best purchase in our cart (which was 200$+)

A: Pours black, but still see-through not pitch black.. Leaves a lasting ring of white/tan head that leaves a small amount of lacing on the glass.

S: Smells like a chocolate bar mixed with a chocolate malt... Nesquick/Hersheys chocolate YUM!

T: Follows suit of the smell. Chocolate bars and cocoa powder... slight roasted malt, but mostly sweet lactose flavor mixed with chocolate syrup. Doesnt taste like beer at times, which is strange but still love it. .

M: Very sticky sweet. Chocolate/malt flavors stick around for a while too.

MUST TRY beer here. Will definitely be buying more in the future.

Pored black with slight head and nice lacing

Smells of hot chocolate, chocolate milk

Taste is straight up chocolate, sweet maybe a hint of dark roast and toffee

Medium bodies, lightly carbonated and easy drinking.

If chocolate is your thing, you'll love this stout. Overall I liked it, I'm not a fan of overly chocolate beers but this one is well made

SS Chocolate – a fitting beer for the 600th review.
Poured a dark brown blackish colour with a nice initial head and a strong frothy lace and film. Plentiful and sticky. Amazing lace.
S – rich hot cocoa, cocoa powder, some rich bread pudding. Semisweet chocolate and malt, a light enticing roastiness. Rich and full of delicious chocolate notes, some hints of roasty bitterness.
T – starts with a roasty hot cocoa, with a rustic woody bitterness, a balanced milky creaminess, clean malt profile, a light leafy grapiness profile and maybe even some lemon, finish is clean with an astute balance between the chocolate and yeasty crispness. The start has a bit of the milky sweetness then the earthy spicy english hops come in with some yeast esters to balance everything out.
M – moderate, with a full balanced chocolate and malt profile, like what an absolutely perfect hot chocolate should taste like. A smooth carbonation, with a very clean mouthfeel, refreshing and utterly delicious.
Nothing bad to say. This is one awesome beer, showing that a moderate strength milk stout can be both amazingly tasty/complex and balanced. Taste is refreshing and delicious, tons of cocoa flavour but so many other elements working there as well. Well worth trying.
