I cracked this open while watching Jake Peavy's successful debut for Boston. Before I even poured it, the profound chocolate aroma hit me hard, mainly consisting of cocoa and a hint of milk chocolate.
As for appearance, well, it looks like a stout - black with a nice ring of head that eventually evolves into a nice ring of lace around the glass.
Tastes great - chocolate malt at the forefront with a bit of roastiness to it. A strong cocoa aftertaste is welcomed. Sweet and somewhat syrupy. I can't believe it's only 5% ABV due to all the deep, complex flavors here. Chocolate cake in a glass.
This is the perfect dessert beer, and the standard for chocolate stouts. I may have to pick more of this up for the holidays.
