Stout NYC features cobblestone floors, stone walls and a sweeping, high-ceiling that feels like a fortress. Thanks to a personable staff and cozy seating in the back room and mezzanine, the warehouse-like space serves as more of a tiny neighborhood tavern, with customers saddling up to the long, full bar or tall tables to unwind in a city that never sleeps.

Stopped in right before the afternoon rush hour. Pretty large place, with high ceilings, mostly irish pub dacor, has upstairs seating. The bartender was friendly and quick with a pour.

The selection is pretty average, it looks like they have a lot of taps, but upon further review, there are 2 sets of taps, both with the same beers. (brooklyn, sam, SNPA, the guniness family beers, bluepoint, yuengling) 2 cask lines (had the bluepoint whiskey rye). Didn't try the food but it was mostly your typical irish pub food. Bottle selection is mostly UK, US, Belgian, German, again nothing here that you go to seek out, but can probably satisfy any taste.

For being close to Penn Station its not that bad, other than that there are much better beer bars in the near area and prices are pretty much in line with the rest of the area

Stout NYC is a chain with three locations. Its original location, Stout® Flagship ~ Near Madison Square Garden at 133 West 33rd Street (between 6th and 7th Avenues), Stout® Grand Central at 60 East 41st Street (between Park and Madison Avenues), and Stout® NYC ~ FiDi at 90 John Street (corner of John and Gold Streets).

Stout® Flagship has three tiers with ample seating and with bar areas on each. Really a great place to explore and a rather upscale, American-Irish restaurant/bar with 22 draught beers, a dozen high quality bottled stouts, and several dozen other bottled beers. Huge bar areas and ample seating in variety of different settings. It also has a truly excellent selection of Irish Whiskeys.

The food was really quite good, the vibe was fun (even though it was fairly quiet -- guessing it rocks when there is a crowd), and the service was very good. Note to visitors, this is Manhattan, so expect prices to be rather high. A great place to hang out.

Dark, high ceilinged space, very long bar down one side then tables along the other. A second level mezzanine of additional tables. About 2 dozen beers on tap, mostly craft beer. Long bottle list too with stouts featured. Good variety, quality beers but not many special releases, but some seasonals. Bartender was attentive. Burger and fries were good . Prices were high, but it's Mid-Town Manhattan so I guess expected.

A decent place to watch sport & drink a few local micro beers. The selection was around 40 on tap in various styles, including of course have a reasonable stout selection. They have around 30 or so seats at the long bar, then a number of tall tables & chairs & a also upstairs eating area.

The best thing that happened here for my wife and I was good intel to go to other brew pubs from our server. She was so nice in fact, that she wrote down the names and locations for us on a ticket from from her order book. Pretty nice. There were a shit ton of beers in this place. i had probably 15 different porters, stouts, IPAs, session IPAs, and not a single beer from my home state of California. When in Rome, right? However vast the collection of beers were, there was not a single bourbon barrel aged beer except for innis and gunn oak barrel aged, which isnt bourbon or irish whiskey barrel aged. Bummer. Here comes the bonus, we discovered a gem that goes by the name of Maine Beer Company, Mean Old Joe. I enjoyed this beer. Here now comes the 2nd Bonus, a location called TOPSHOPS!!!!!! Legit Legit, too legit to quit!

I just started working in the Financial District, and I was very excited to come across this establishment while wandering about during one of my lunch breaks. You can't miss it--the giant, crystal clear windows printed with the big glass of beer logo and the name--Stout. Not Mulligan's, nor Hooligan's, nor Patsy's Hole in the Wall, just...Stout. It said to me, "this is a respectable place that knows about beer, that knows you know about beer, and is waiting for you after work one of these days." So, one evening, when I had some time to kill, I sidled up to Stout. It was around 5:45 on a random weekday, so I was surprised to see a security guy out front. At first I wasn't sure if he actually worked there, because although he was quite large and dressed entirely in black, he had on a sort of dingy sweatsuit which didn't seem to go with the classiness the establishment appeared to be trying to project. Also, he seemed woefully disinterested in what was going on around him. He didn't even look at me as he quietly asked me for my ID, and he didn't look at that, either. He just kind of held it in his hand for half a second, then gave it right back to me. I shrugged, and walked inside.

I will say, it's a lovely venue. Cavernous and clean, with appropriately dark wood paneling that's lit up by those tall picture windows. The place could hold an army, and I imagine it gets pretty packed on the weekends. At that point, however, it was a bit barren, so I was easily able to grab a space at the bar and get handed a beer list fairly quickly.

The craft beer selection wasn't out of this world, but it was pretty solid, at least as far as bottles were concerned There was a nice selection of stouts highlighted in their own section of the menu, some of which I hadn't tried. The beers on draft were less diverse. There were some craft options listed among Budweiser and company, but they consisted of the usual local/semi-local or super popular choices you can now find in what seems like the majority of NYC bars. I ordered a Victory DIPA. I love that beer, but so does everyone else, and I therefore find myself drinking it every time I come into a place where I mistakenly suppose I'll find a good selection of craft on draft.

Stout obviously has to cater to the after-work Wall Street crowd, which generally cares more about blowing off steam than pondering ales. And because these folks' pockets run deep, it's no surprise that Stout's prices are well above average. My Victory cost more than other craft selections, probably due to the high ABV, but it was served in a 12 oz. glass, so in the end, the alcohol content was comparable to the other options. Ah, another typical ploy put forth by big money bars with a rich and oblivious clientele.

The service was ho hum. My bartender wasn't too interested in me, maybe because she figured she'd get a better tip from a man, or maybe because she could sense that I was disgruntled with the menu and the pricing.

Obviously, I prefer "craftier" joints, but I can understand Stout's appeal. And due to the limited choices in the area, I ended up going back for dinner with a friend later in the week. We shared the Ahi tuna salad and the calamari. Both were good, but again, rather costly. Since there were only two of us, we were forced to sit at a high boy on these tall, wobbly chairs so that the booths could be reserved for bigger crowds. It was rather uncomfortable, and the booths never did fill up.

All in all, this is a solid establishment in the Financial District with good food, good beer, mediocre service, and high prices. I'll likely be back: When you're this far downtown, beggars can't be choosers.

If you are an interracial couple DO NOT GO HERE. It wouldn't surprise me if you were to research the owner you will see that this person has no or very little formal education. This place is ran by completely uneducated bunch of redneck racists. Yes the STAFF. The customers weren't even paying attention to us. Me and my guy went here for lunch, and the staff all stopped, and gawked at us. We asked to move to quiet corner so that we could talk, and then the OWNER came over and slammed a door that was right by us. I cannot believe this place has expanded. It needs to be shut down. The way black people are treated here is unbelievable. There is no hiding it GO and WATCH. The STAFF, AND OWNER are sick, and pathetic. People should not patronize this vile, immoral, unethical establishment, so that it could get shut down. They are disgusting people!!!! People act like racism, and ignorance is a thing of the past, nope just go here, and witness it blatant, and out in the open. You see they hire 1 black waitress to hide their sick mentality, but I would put all of my money on the fact that they more than likely treat her like garbage. NO ONE SHOULD PATRONIZE THIS PLACE SO THAT IT COULD BE SHUT DOWN!!!!!

Extremely crowded post-work, pre-event bar, in midtown, in close proximity to MSG.
Good selection of beer
Typical NYC overpriced selection.
Ample seating.
Obviously a fully stocked bar, with a good selection of beer, both on tap and in bottles.
Just a few actual stouts on tap, with many more available via bottle.
Very spacious with multiple bars and areas that lead to a bit of a labyrinth-type feel.
Ample restrooms.
More than enough staff to accommodate the crowd without too long of a wait for food/drink.

My only knock on the place is this. If you have Stout in your name, you should have several stouts on tap. The entire tap list on our visit consisted of beer that are orange, yellow or red. Plenty of stouts in the bottle though.

We stopped in as the next to last stop of an afternoon beer fest/crawl with friends. Vibe was a bit faux-Irish bar but frankly I was expecting less due to location. We were quite comfortable and service was rather good.

As mentioned, there were no stouts on tap so we had to "make do" with the bottle selections which were quite lovely. The Schlafly Impy Stout listed on the menu was, sadly, out of stock, but we made it work.

I'd stop in again next time in the area. It's no Rattle n Hum but it's pretty good.

Stout NYC is my go to spot in the Madison Square Garden area. I stopped in this weekend prior to the Duke vs. St. Johns game on Sunday.

The bar opened at 11:00 and was quickly packed. We were able to grab a table right near the bar with waitress service which was a godsend. Stout is huge, but laid out kind of quirky. Downstairs is large as well, but it's not always open.

Otherwise, the bar is decorated in a modern take on the typical Irish pub. There are about 30 taps which have a decent amount of stouts available with a decent amount of other beers on tap, but nothing mind blowing. The bottle list is long, but undistinguished as well. They also have a monthly featured brewery on tap. This month was Goose Island. I ended up having a few pints of Left Hand Milk Stout and one pint of Goose Island IPA.

The food is usually pretty good, although I didn't eat this time, and the prices are a touch high, but it's in a touristy part of Manhattan, so I can't really complain.

All in all, Stout is a good place for a few pints and a burger before any event at the Garden.

Stopped in here on an early Thursday afternoon for lunch before heading back to Boston. Grabbed a seat at the bar. Pretty quiet when I first walked in, but the lunch crowd really stormed in about half an hour later. Stout is a large Irish bar, but subtly decorated. There is also an elevated seating area, which I liked, along with the wrought iron lighting fixtures. Service was good. Even though both female bartenders were in the middle of their daily prep, both were friendly and smiled a lot. The beer selection was wide. Of course, they have five different stout on tap, plus some local craft beer like three Brooklyn, and they also featured Captain Lawrence Brewing as the beer of the month with three taps. Since I was at a place called Stout, I had to order a draft stout, so I went with an upstate NY brewery called Keegan Ales Mother's Milk Stout. The chicken sandwich I ordered hit the spot but was overall forgettable. The bartender gave me a free Coke, which was nice. A decent Irish bar to check out. Just FYI, a quick walk to MSG.

Knew about this place one St. Patrick's Day with relatives. We'd always walk past this pub to get to the parade after spending some time in the bar next door to it (Blarney Rock). Tried it for good after a job fair at the Garden.

Atmosphere: Not really much in terms of people. Then again, it was on an afternoon on a work-day, and happy hour was still a while away. Decor was very nice, and they have a downstairs pub as well if upstairs gets too close for comfort.

Quality: Pleasant; the time of day I came in helped a lot, but it was still pleasant, very nice setting.

Service: Had a charming lady from Ireland be my bartender for the course of my stay. Was very helpful in my curiosity over a particular stout (Coco Loco).

Selection: Pretty vast; beers ran the gamut from lagers (Brooklyn, Yuengling) to stouts (Guinness, Coco Loco).

Food: Chowed down on a burger with bacon and Irish aged cheddar. Definitely worth what I paid, it was delicious.

Overall, I would recommend one to go in there, though at night it does get crowded. Try going there during the day for lunch.

Came here after fireworks on 4th and pretty busy but we were seated quickly and service was attentive and friendly. Music and vibe not overpowering and they have sports on the tvs so it has a business to it but not in your face. They have a good selection but there are no diamonds in the rough - selection is mixed between American micros and imports. Pretty much the only thing they have that is hard to find is the local NY beers if you're an out of towner. Since it was right by my hotel I'm glad I stopped in and it's a nice place, but not my first beer bar selection in NYC.

Located about a block away from Penn Station, this place always seems to have a large crowd no matter what time of day. The decor is of your traditional Irish bar mixed with a modern sports bar. The place is much bigger than it looks. Long bar on one side with dining tables along the other sides. There is another level on the outside edges which has more tables. The middle is left open creating a catherdral ceiling feel when at the bar. Plenty of TVs around to watch the games. The bar has a fairly large selection which contains mainly macros and widely available micros or pseudo micros, most of these are in bottle form. It has a larger selection of stouts than most main stream bars but you won't find anything exceptional. The list that they have beers on cask but the time I went they only had a cider. The bar has plenty of taps but I believe most of them are duplicates. I didn't try any food so can't comment there. I managed to find a small standing spot by the bar. Service was prompt but nothing spectacular as the place was pretty jammed at the time. The place is nice for your average beer drinker but falls short for beer bar enthusiasts. You're best bet is to walk a few blocks over to Rattle n Hum or the Gingerman.

Stopped in before a Rangers-Sabres game at MSG. Lucked in to two stools at the bar on a very crowded pre-game. Nice vibe of hockey fans. I tried the Keegan Ales Mothers Milk stout and stayed with it. They had a few other stouts, and what you would expect from faux irish pub - Stella, Sam, Brooklyn etc.

Asked (female) bartender if any "local" stouts on tap. She replied they had no local beers - then saw Brooklyn tap handle...huh? Asked about Mothers Milk Stout - "a stout from Kingston, NY." Sorry - but that is local enough for me!

Overall, bartenders were fun and working hard with a big crowd. No worries. Ordered 3 appetizers - typical bar food - again - no problems - filled our needs.

A good option pre-game - just enough good beers on tap - not a BA type place, but enough good beers on tap to make most BA's happy before a game.

A sort of "modern Irish" themed pub, though a bit unfocused. Overall the vibe is pretty good, and the location seems to pack in the crowds. I couldn't even approach the bar the night I was here.

With a name like Stout you would expect a focus on the beer style, and while they do indeed offer a decent range of offerings both on tap and in bottle/can, there is so much missing. Frankly, they may as well have named the place Lager, because there are more lagers in stock than stouts. Only 5 of the 20 taps are stouts, and the rest are average to good, but there is nothing is unusual. They do have perhaps 30 or so stout offerings in bottle/can, which is nothing to sneeze at, and there are some nice things here.

But with perhaps 90 or so more bottle offerings from around the world, including more than a fair shake of macros, it just seems that they missed the boat. I mean, do we really need bottles of Fosters, Molson, Rolling Rock, Stella (which is also on tap), Becks, Tiger, Corona, etc.? I could go on. How about some DFW WW Stout, or Lagunitas Cappuccino Stout, or Orkney Dragonhead Stout, or even something obvious like Belhaven Stout? Sure, I can find something I'll drink here, but with a name like Stout and the ability to offer such a wide selection, it is surprising they offer so much that is average or below average (holding back from giving a lower rating because there are some very good things on the menu).

There were two cask offerings listed, though both were tapped out the night I was here.

The food was fine, a step above average pub grub. I'll cut the servers some slack because they handled the crowd pretty well. But I did get a twinge of attitude from the bartender for asking about their casks (he didn't know what was offered, or that they were tapped out). It took about 20 minutes all told to get a drink at which point our table was ready. The waitress gave me some attitude because I sat down with the beer I had ordered from the bar while waiting to be seated... ayayay. After my meeting (I met someone here for business) I proceeded to the Blind Tiger and had a great evening.

Bottom line, decent enough if you are in the area and don't have time to seek out something better. Though beware of extra crowded times.

More of a macro-beer place, its huge, and central to the Broadway Street crowd. Sparse micro taps, and even at that, to supplement Irish dry stouts and the like. They could take their craft beer more seriously, and then this place would rock. You could easily do a festivale here. Warehouse effect, with wooden tables and chairs. One gem I was looking for, and on their website, orkney dragonhead, I did not see. Worth a bit more walk to the better bars to the east of manhattan.Crowd was young, I am told the food is nothing to write home about.

I've been here a few times - since I work in the Empire State Building and take the LIRR out of Penn Station, it's right in the middle and is convenient on 34th Street.

There is really nothing you can't get anywhere else on tap, but there are some good stouts in the bottle, although there's pretty much nothing you can't get somewhere else. The beer is always fresh though, and they get a lot of people in and out of the place every day, pretty much.

The service is OK - they don't go out of their way to talk about beer, and I didn't bother to ask because there was nothing interesting on tap. I only got food there once, and the waitress was pretty mean, actually. The food was standard pub/cheapie food, mostly fried stuff, burgers and pizza, and I probably wouldn't choose to eat there again.

Actually location is really the only thing that makes Stout NYC unique. Also it's HUGE, with three floors and at least three bars from what I could see. They had pretty much the same stuff at each of them, and everything on Friday night is packed.

Overall they have decent beer and decent food, and a convenient location. I don't really like it there though.

This place is very convenient for those waiting to hit a train in Penn Station. That's why I stopped in but I did not know a Knicks game was scheduled so the place was filled to capacity.

The bar is a large Irish themed bar with plenty of wood and high ceilings. The bar is large and people were three deep, so I waited quite a while to get a beer. They had two beers on cask (which I ordered) and they were fresh and tasty.

There are about 4 stouts on tap along with some standard Irish bar beers, some from Brooklyn, and some macros. The bottle list sports a very nice selection, but with the crowds you beter know what you want and order quickly.

Service was robotic as bartenders were moving from taps to patron to cash register and onto the next customer. Did not try any food, but a fish dish someone ordered was very fishy smelling (not good), filling the immediate area.

This is the best place to hit if waiting around the Garden / Penn Station if you want a decent beer selection but the crowds are a big turnoff.

If you're in midtown - particularly near Madison Square Garden/Penn Station - this is a safe place to go for a good beer selection and acceptable bar food. It's basically a big, modern Irish bar with a decent selection of beers. They have a few out-of-the-ordinary stouts (Mother's Milk) and some local brews, but nothing mind blowing.

Stout NYC is not a destination, but a safe place for advocates of beer who are in the neighborhood and can't get to Brooklyn where the really good beer bars are (Barcade, Spuyten Duyvil).

This place was a great way to spend an afternoon waiting for my wife's train. A wide selection of stouts in the bottle but, I wish they had more stouts on tap (and the bartenders know how to pour a stout). A Nice selection of beers overall. The Young's Double Chocolate had a perfect head and was delicious on tap.

I was there in the afternoon and it was not busy at all which made for a nice experience. I imagine it would be very noisy when full. The food looked interesting but I did not try anything. If I was in the area/coming in to the city by train, I would definitely go back.
