Good solid session beer. Perfect for a summer evening with some grilled meat.

On cask at Pillars of Hercules, Soho, London.

Dull gold with white speckles.
Light lemon and toasted grain nose.
Brown pan malts with a thin coast of lemon curd hops. Toasty end and a nutty linger.
Soft, light to medium, and clean.

Mild, balanced between malt and hops, though the latter are pretty tame. Very traditional Kentish ale that you could knock back.

day two at NERAX 2009

deep golden straw with amber tones. micro-carbonation actually gives a haze until it settles almost clear. nearly nitro-like. lovely, creamy head that stays around. not much lacing sticks however.

aroma: nutty, nutty, NUTTY, with hints of... spice? bready malt and grassy hop, lots of esters and diacetyl, but never overpowering.

taste: great balance of bready malts and yeast, into grassy hops with touch of ester and diacetyl, with more resins in a hoppy dry finish. nutty again, with hints of... hay?

light but smooth, with touch of resins in the finish. very creamy carbonation.

the esters and diacetyl might get in the way of all-night drinkability however

cask @ Rattle 'n' Hum.

Pours clear gold without a trace of a head.

Nose is nicely floral, bit toasty, with a faint, odd band aid note.

Dry and biscuity, slightly toasty malt body, with a firm floral hop note. Bit spicy, hint of butter towards finish, and again, and odd note reminiscent of band aids. Even so, a pleasant beer.

Mouthfeel is silky, hint of a tickle at the front of the tongue, fluffy in back.

Pours a hazed orange/amber. Nice creme head. Nose is citric hops. Flavor is mild with some hop characteristics there and a definite bitterness. Definitely on the earthy side. Somewhat of a grassy aftertaste. Feel is about standard. It's nice, yes. The obliterated American palate might not appreciate it so much, but it's pretty decent.

Thanks to Londonporter's kind suggestion--tasted by half-pint at the Ealing beerfest., 11/05/06, gravity dispensed. This beer is the Gold medallist in the Mild category, in the SIBA South-East regional beer competition. Made with "the WGV and Early Choice Goldings supplied by Bill Calcutt of Finchcocks hop garden in Goudhurst, Kent".

A: pale amber, coming with a fluffy thin head, with great clarity and low carbonation.
S: grainy, slightly nutty, and flowery, a little honeyish note, and sweet-lemony maltiness... so refreshing yet soft, like a hoppy pilsner, albeit with impacts from Kent Goldings hops.
T: a sour-bitter-sweet citric flavour prevails upfront, with a rather subdued maltiness, leading towards a bitter and slightly tannic aftertaste, before floral hoppyness take over... a long bitter finish for a pale mild... Lovely!!
M&D: lightly carbonated and very light-bodied, this pale mild is, IMHO, the best I've tried, even better than the Timothy Taylor's Golden Best (which is tasted far away from Yorkshire, so no competition here actually)~~ What a pale mild... it'd surprise you if this beer style had never occured in your mind.
