From 09/2716 notes. Bottle into a chalice with the brewer at a Sushi Sake-beer pairing at Sushi Seki in NYC....pretty cool.
Lots of bananas, cloves, and light spices. overall a nice beer that was more like a hefeweizen.

A: The beer is slightly hazy and a little pale yellow in color and has a light amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a quarter finger high white head consisting of large bubbles that died down somewhat, but left a thick collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Moderate aromas of wheat are present in the nose. Some hints of lemons become noticeable once the beer warms up.
T: Similar to the smell, the taste is dominated by flavors of wheat and has some notes of coriander and hints of fruity yeast.
M: It feels light to medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation. The wheat seems to be a little raw so it lends a grainy edge to the mouthfeel.
O: I wouldn't characterize this as a refreshing and thirst quenching witbier due to the raw and grainy nature of the wheat, but the light body makes it easy to drink.

Pours a hazy golden-yellow with a foamy beige head that settles to wisps of film on top of the beer. Tiny dots of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of wheat, grain, yeast, and spice aromas. Taste is much the same with wheat, caramel, and spice flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of spice bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer that is tasty, but the smell is fairly subtle to me.

The aroma is a pretty good balance of spicy and sweet—vanilla, somewhat tart fruitiness; aroma becomes a little more honey-like over time. Eggshell-white head doesn't last long; body is a cloudy light amber; a good deal of lacing. First impressions of the flavor are of yeasty sourness and poorly integrated alcohol; more spicy than citrusy; earthy hop bitterness; vanilla sweetness; a wheaty finish. Mouthfeel is medium-light, crisp; a bit dry and syrupy in the finish.
Flavor seems fairly simple and tipped in favor of bitterness and sweetness; could use more citrus. Definitely refreshing but largely unremarkable.

A: Hazy straw, white head, very little retention, slight lacing.
S: A good amount of aroma for a wit... coriander, orange rind & lemon.
T: Coriander, lemon zest & vanilla are quite pronounced; somewhat wheatie, but no real maltiness; modest bitterness.
M: Light to moderate body has a very dry finish.
D: It'd be great to quench a summer thirst.
Thanks Bobsy!

Very elegant bottle which I brought back from Japan. I've now had four beers from this world-class brewery, and while this one is good, its not in the same league.
The pour reveals a clear yellow body, with a white foamy head - pretty much standard for a wit. There's some lacing and the retention is decent. Aroma of apple and grain, along with some muted coriander. Nice combination of orange and coriander in the flavour, playing off against a very solid wheat backbone. Quite thirst quenching. Light bodied, which I like in my wheats, and with moderate carbonation.
This one went down easily - the flavours are crisp and clean and the whole package combines to slake thirst very effectively. A Belgian-style wheat beer was one of the last things I expected to find in Japan, yet I think this one can hold its held proud in that category.
