This one is a solid dark brown with a tan head that rises to one finger and shows some strength, leaving moderate lacing on the glass as it goes.
This one has a fairly solid stout base that could yet be improved. Beyond that, there's some nondescript sweetness and a light bitterness along with a touch of sour plum. Some breadiness speaks to the malts along with a bit of roast and very light char, and a touch of earthiness rounds out the sweeter notes that don't come through especially strongly. All in all, it seems like a bit of a rough draft as far as the accompanying flavors in particular.
The feel is a little fizzy in a medium body, and I'm not sure exactly what it's going for. In any case, it doesn't really reach American stout territory in body, but it is in a proper range for certain stouts if not a bit crisp. Some more smoothness would do.

1 PINT 6 FL. OZ. bottle
Served in a snifter

This beer pours black with an inch of tan head that leaves little lacing.

It has a sweet smell like an English toffee cappuccino. I get some roasted malt and a little coffee in the finish.

There is a sweet component up front. After a few drinks I determine that it is indeed butterscotch. Then I get some roasted malt and coffee flavors. The finish is coffee-ish.

Full mouthfeel with low carbonation

It's a little rough around the edges. I like the Hideout and their beers at the taproom. I cannot believe that this is their best effort for bottling though.

22 ounce bottle into pint glass; no bottle dating but is a recent release. Pours fairly pitch black color with a 1-2 finger dense tan head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of milk chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, toffee, toast, dark bread, light butterscotch, herbal, plum, apple, and roasted earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/roasted/bready malt, coffee, and light-moderate fruity yeast notes; with solid strength. Taste of milk chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, toffee, toast, dark bread, light butterscotch, herbal, plum, apple, and roasted earthiness. Light-moderate herbal/roasted coffee bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, toffee, toast, dark bread, light butterscotch, herbal, plum, apple, and roasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Nice complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roasted/bready malt, coffee, and light-moderate fruity yeast flavors; with a good roasted bitterness/sweetness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Light carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a very smooth, creamy, and lightly slick/chalky mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warmth lingering after the finish. Overall this is a nice English coffee stout. All around good complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roasted/bready malt, coffee, and light-moderate fruity yeast flavors; and very smooth to drink. A nicely enjoyable offering.
