From a bottle, pours a slightly hazy gold yellow color with a thin wispy head.

The smell is funk, white pepper, lemon, yeast, grains, a little fruity, apple. The flavor is very earthy, lots of yeast, grains, lemon, pepper, hay and grass. The finish is spritzy, carbonated, but pretty clean.

This was pretty good. I liked it.

On tap at Franklins, my first beer from these guys.

This was a solid, easy drinking straight forward interpretation of the style. Flavor is dominated by green apple and lemon zest with a mildly tart leaning throughout and minimal sweetness. Yeasty esters with light pepper and grass adding some balance that lingers through the dry finish. Aroma is yeasty and lemony, not quite as complex as the flavor. Medium bodied with strong carbonation. Nothing crazy but very enjoyable.

A: Decently murky and radiant gold, the way a Saison should look.

S: Citrus and bananas, with some apple and pear mixed in.

T/M: Slightly astringent apples and pears, some coriander and clove, paired with bready malts and yeasts. Mouthfeel is clean and slightly thin.

D: Easily drinkable, but the apple/pear flavors almost seem a little out of place.

Poured into snifter.

Pours ½ finger of white head. Color is a hazed bright orange-yellow.

Aroma: Tart green apples, lemon zest, bananas, cloves, yeast. I like it.

Taste: More green apples, bananas, cloves, lemon zest, and some spice. I like how the green apple flavor adds a little bit of tartness.

Mouthfeel: Clean and refreshing. Lighter bodied with a medium amount of carbonation. Ends dry.

Overall, a nice saison. I like the tartness. Easy drinking. I dig it and I would definitely like to have more of this, especially on a hot summer day.

Growler. Thanks to drabmuh for this one. Pours a lightly hazed straw color with a thin layered head that colors around the glass. Banana, citrus, spice, and almost an apple aroma in the nose. Light mouthfeel with good carbonation. Great tasting and very easy drinking. Sweet green apple taste along with a very mild bitterness in the end. Citrus and almost some zest with spice. The green apple taste and aroma picks up in strength as this warms. Very nice and easy drinking.

Getting a little lazy with the names guys, this beer is simply called "Saison" -- since there isn't a previous saison from Franklin's, I added it. From the brewer's description,

"Our version is a pretty straight forward entry, made with 100% Pilsner malt, Saaz hops and a yeast from a classic Saison brewery in Belgium. Its moderately higher carbonation really helps the esters and hops come forward to your nose. On the first sip it attacks you with a pleasant bitterness, citrus, a touch of tartness and a subtle sweetness in the finish."

Beer is yellow and really hazy with a thin white head of small bubbles that breaks quickly. Its heavily carbonated and leaves some lacing on the glass.

Beer smells like bready yeast and lemons. Interesting.

Beer is light in body and bright on the palate. The beer has a creamy smooth mouthfeel but the lead off is a citric taste that reminds me a lemons or tart limes. Its quite good though. There is some minimal sweetness and nice esters on the midpalate. Its a decent saison. Drinkability high.
