Stopped by here the other day while in Ohio for a wedding. We were trying to pick up some beer that isn't available in Indiana and figured a typical grocery store might have some. Boy, was I surprised to walk in and see the great selection here! Not the greatest I have seen, but very nice, especially for a grocery store.

Not sure of the service, I tend to just go it alone in beer stores. No one was around here, I imagine they are just your typical grocery store clerks, not beer experts.

All in all, a pretty nice place. I wish I had more time to look at the selection. It looked like they have a pretty goood wine selection too. I picked up a bunch of FFF bombers for $2.49. It appears they are going to stop carrying FF because the shelf had none and they were all in a shopping cart marked down.

This is a pretty good beer stop. When you walk in hang a left in front of the cash registers and walk past the wine. They only have one isle for craft, but it's pretty long, plus they have some unrefridgerated beers in the corner. They have a lot of imports, but I don't really know much about those yet. Most of the Ohio breweries are well represented here. Plenty of brews from Great Lakes, Thirsty Dog, The Brew Kettle, Hoppin' Frog and Buckeye. The out of state beers are well represented as well, they have Founders, Bells, Stone, Southern Tier, Smuttynose, Lagunitas, Troegs, Bear Republic, Green Flash, Avery, Great Divide and some others I'm sure I'm forgetting. If your passing through the area or live close by, stop here for some good brews. I prefer this ACME over West Point Market, but there so close to each other, you can hit them both up.

After seeing all the good reviews on here I decided to make a stop here a few months back, and have returned many times. One of my favorite stops when I am in akron for sure because the prices are better than West Point and they have a really good selection. I have seen seasonals come in at the right times, so they do seem to keep everything up to date as they should. Was just there a couple weeks ago and got some St Bernardus Christmas, Scaldis and Scaldis Noel, Delerium Noel, Troegs Mad Elf, and Buckeye Zetek 2010. I have been there before and picked up a mixed 6 and they ended up being fantastic.

Stone(had DB 2010 as they should have plus most of the lineup)
Boulder(a few different sixes and a month ago I got a bomber of Mojo Risin for 4 bucks on clearance!)
Southern Tier
Founders
Bells
Most Belgians you would typically find(St Bernardus, Corsendonk, Delerium etc)
Troegs
Avery
Sierra Nevada
Bear Republic
Pretty much all the normal Ohio brews are there

there is definitely a lot I am forgetting, but the selection is great, and you can bet I will probably show up there in the next month or so.

HUUUGE Selection for a grocery store. Very clean and well maintained and they do an outstanding job of keeping everything stocked. Talked to one guy working there about a couple of beers they didnot
have on hand and the follwing week when returning they had them in, sweet! Used to go to West Point Market ( which is really good )before coming here but the tide has turned and this is my number one stop for brew.A must stop when in area. they have a largish wine selection also ( if you like that kind of stuff ) located right beside the beer department.

Well I must say that this is my favorite Acme store to visit. You walk in the front doors and head to your left, you'll pass the wine and on your left is the beer! For sure this is the biggest selection at an Acme i've seen. Not only is it a large selection but it is a very good selection too. On your left as you walk down the aisle a coolor with some macros and some micros. There is also a shelf that runs along your right with more brews, imports and some macros. In front of you, you will find most of the goodness you were hoping to find. Most of the bigger regional brews are represented including:
Two Brothers (A few)
Founders (good representation)
Bells (good amount of offerings)
Southern Tier (most of their offerings)
Dark Horse (good amount)
Of course the usual suspects in the area are there as well, Hoppin Frog, Great Lakes, Thirsty Dog, some Buckeye.

They have also been known to have beers on clearance (Speedway and Wee Heavy from Alesmith were 9.99 until I bought them that is) and they had some ST stuff on clearance for $4 and $5 a bottle. They also have some nice imports and some Boon lambics as well.

Definitely worth the stop. I love coming up here and checking this place and West Point Market a block down the road!

It's a big grocery store... Not one I'd heard about before, but it looks pretty well established.

I left the hotel and drove the ten minutes or so in search of the place, realizing after the first two minutes that I had to pee. By the time I got there it became apparent that I had to pee really really bad.

Given my bladder I decided that I would hit up the restroom first and relieve myself. But I couldn't find it. I had to try and avoid pinching it off by hand and just did my best with mind-over-matter; but there were a few times I grabbed my junk and held it for a bit. I tried to time it for when no one was around to see, but the last time some woman saw me and got this disturbed look on her face like she thought as about to whip it out and smack her in the face with it.

So I mumbled "I have to pee" and moved past her. Everytime I saw an employee they were super busy and couldn't help me, but eventually I found two women seated at a table in the candy section (which isn't far from the beer section). They were like "Hi, are you here for your flu shot?" and I said "No, I'm here because I have to pee and I can't find the bathroom and some lady saw me touch my penis and thought I was a pervert but I was only grabbing it so that I didn't pee all over everybody."

Then they said "the restrooms are right over there," and pointed at an area that was less than ten feet away. So I went and peed. I gotta tell you, it was one of the most magical times in my life. The unrine just kept pouring out, tears welled up in my eyes... I must have stood there for five minutes letting the piss flow. I actually had to flush in the middle to prevent it from spilling out onto the floor.

When I was done, I shook three times, washed my hands, and walked over to the beer section.'

The selection was magnificant, lots of good beers to pick from, and I was not displeased. It was a bit pricey, but had the second best selection of any beer store that I have been to in Ohio (the best selection is at Vintage in boardman).

I was very pleased overall, just don't go in there if you have to pee and don't knwo where the restrooms are. And if you do find yourself having to pee, try to avoid touching yourself, and make your way to the candy section, just past the wine and beer and soda pops.

The Acme on Market St. is not your typical grocery store that for sure. The yhave a very large selecton of wines and they classify by country and type. The beer selection is the largest that I have seen in a chain-type grocery store.

They have many different selections to choose from I'd say about 150-200 different types of beer. And you can buy 6 packs, samplers, and they have about 70-80 beers that you can purchase individually.

I was in the beer and wine section for about 20min and didn't see any employees, but it was ok because I wouldn't expect the grocery store staff to be that beer savy.

Good place to stop in, there are also like 3 other places within 2-3 miles that have great selections to choose from.

This an aaverage grocery store, but with an excellent selection. its all located to the left right past the wine section. So you can drop off the non-beer drinkers and and get down to business. They have all of the macro -brews right in front. So make your way to the back and start your decision making. Unfortunatly all of the micro-brews are not refrigerated, but the warm beer is well compensated by the selection. Also make sure that you walk all around on every rack, some gems are hidden. Overall a nice establishment to peruse a nice selection.

Located in West Akron (just next to West Point Market), this is usually the first place that I go beer shopping. The selection is similar to West Point (perhaps larger) and the prices are slightly cheaper. There is dust on some bottles on the shelves, so it doesn't seem like they move very much of some of their stock, but I have never had a problem with freshness or taste from anything that I have purchased there. I rate the service low, as of the many times that I have been there, only once have I been approached by an employee offering help, However, being a grocery store and not a liquor store, I don't expect too much.

(Edit: Very often, the cashiers here raise a fuss about my valid out-of-state ID and have to have a manager apporve it. It's a hassle, but I have no problem with their strict rules regarding underage sales. I DO, however, begin to have a problem with it when the manager asks for two aditional IDs and then drills me on the address and other details of my license while the 16-year old bagboy handles my beer in front of him. If you look young, be prepared for a hassle. I may do most of my shopping next door at West Point from now on.)

Acme Fresh Market is a locally owned grocery chain located in the Akron, Ohio area. Acme No. 1 is located on West Market Street in NW Akron and is only a few miles from I-77 exit 132 (White Pond Drive/Mull Ave.).

Being from PA where our grocery stores are not allowed to sell beer and wine, it is a treat to visit a grocery store with large selections of wine and beer. The wine and beer sections are located at the front of the Acme No. 1 store. For a grocery store, Acme has a fine beer selection. Two aisles are dedicated to beer. Over half of the beer section's shelf space is dedicated to craft beers and imported beers.

I had a difficult time trying to decide what beers to place in my shopping cart. Acme had a nice selection of Great Lakes, Victory, Weyerbacher, Stone, Three Floyds and Goose Island beers. They also had beers from Michigan's New Holland, Bells and Founders breweries. I even found a beer from a Colorado brewery that was unknown to me, Tommyknocker. Beers from Avery, Alesmith, Ommegang and Unibroue were also available. There was a modest selection of Belgian, English and German beers.

I didn't see the beer manager during this visit, but I met him a few years ago during my first visit to Acme. I spoke with him and learned that he enjoyed craft beers, which explains the nice selection of craft beers that Acme carries. Between Acme and the nearby West Point Market, a visitor to NW Akron can pretty much cover their beer needs.
