I've been here twice now, once in 2006, and last week with DoubleJ. Looks the same as I remember it. The restaurant itself is fairly dark and cozy with a authentic German feel to it. I was there for the Oktoberfest, so I was in the big tent which lets face it has a lot more room.

Had a Spaten Oktoberfest and a Warsteiner Dunkel, a couple classic, both very good and fresh as the beer tends to be here. Food wise I had a good size brat and some mashed potatoes and gravy. The German mustard is quite tasty. I've had the Sauerbraten in the actual restaurant which is delicious. I hope they still make it.

Prices for beer at the Oktoberfest were not so good, $10 straight for what couldn't beer more than a pint of lager and I'm being generous here. However, the prices in the regular restaurant are much more competitive.

Selection is solid for a German restaurant, but nothing crazy - Spaten, Bitburger, Warsteiner, Hofbrau, Konig, Sam Adams Octoberfest, no Paulaner unfortunately.

The atmosphere is really what makes the experience. I love the whole look of Bavaria. I only live 3-4 miles from the place; I need to come here more. If you're planning a day at the Huntington Beach Mall go a stone's throw north and check this village out.

The village that Old World Restaurant is part of is one of a kind for Orange County. Various small shops, restaurants, and even living quarters dot this several acre area near the I-405, but it is furnished in a Teutonic style and you can only get to these shops by walking. Given the uniqueness of this plot of land, I'm surprised that I never heard of it before. I knew about Old World Restaurant however, and a trip with Halcyondays for a night of Oktoberfest celebrations was the key to its exploration.

The outdoor beer garden is huge. There are stands scattered about, picnic tables here and there, a dual stage just outside the restaurant, and a dance floor. On Wednesday night, most of the people there for the O-fest celebrations were hanging around the dance floor. We took a few peeks inside the dark and polished interior, but for much of the night we stayed aroudn teh beer garden.

It is mandatory to drink beer during the O-fest celebrations, and there are roughly a dozen draft options to help you out. 4 Oktoberfest styles on-tap (from Sam Adams, Warsteiner, Spaten, Hofbrau), also Spaten Lager and Dunkel, Warsteiner Dunkel, Franziskaner, Bitburger, and Konig Ludwig Weiss await to be consumed. While various glassware options sat above the bar, they seemed to only be used for those who were eating inside the restaurant and weren't out on the beer garden; we were given the shaft with plastic cups :/ Still, the beers did taste fresh.

The food was good too, even though the options were limited in the beer garden. Bratwurst, German potato salad, and a pretzel were enough to offset the alcohol from my beers, and just as tasty.

It is difficult to rate value in this context. The beers were very pricey during the celebrations ($10 for no more than 20 ounces of Spaten Oktoberfest), but perhaps the high prices are justified to keep people from getting drunk at O-fest. I can't imagine the beers remaining that expensive for the rest of the year. Call it "a bit pricey" for now.

A second trip to Old World might have come later than sooner if not for the village complex it's a part of. And I thought Little Saigon was the only cool thing in this part of Orange County...

This is a quirky little place located near 405 and Beach. Situated in a small complex of Bavarian looking buildings, the restaurant and bar are sprawling with several different sizes of banquet rooms. We had lunch first - the food is authentic German and very tasty. Prices are reasonable. Beer selection was about 12 different German beers on tap, plus several other in bottles. After lunch we walked over to the market. They have a great selection of European bottles available for take home. They also have a great meat department if you are looking for some good brats! Finally, finished off with a couple drinks in the bar. Same tap list as the restaurant. While I was there I had a Hofbrau Maibock and a Spaten Octoberfest. Service was friendly. They also have a small room with 2 shuffleboard tables, a pool table, and a couple dartboards. Interesting little place - check it out if you are in the area and craving a little bit of Bavaria.
