Deep brown beer with no transparency. A thin layer of tan head, maybe a shade shy of a finger thick. Decent lacing.
Once I smelled the beer, things went south. It smelled earthy like hops, but it had an almost fungusy smell like a foot. Thankfully, it did not taste like a foot, but it was very hoppy. It is an earthy, woody taste with clear bitterness. Meduium body, with a crisp bite.
Overall, I was really disappointed with this beer since it is a local brewery and I had heard decent things. I would never have another.

From 04/25/12 notes. Had on cask at Fireworks in Arlington, VA. Served in a pint glass.
a - Pours a dark reddish amber color with one finger of fluffy white head and low carbonation evident.
s - Smells of fruity malts, sweet cinnamon, roasted malts, a bit nutty. Nice sweet and fruity nose.
y - Tastes sweet fruity malts, sugar, candy, cinnamon, nuts, toasted malts, and roasted malts. Taste is sweeter than the nose; reminds me of fruit loops. Very nice.
m - Medium body and no carbonation. Body is very smooth and creamy; perfect on cask.
o - Overall I liked this brown ale a lot; a lot more going on in it than most brown ales. Nice sweet fruits dominate, with some toasted and roasted malts coming in the aftertaste. Great body, cask works well for this beer. Would like to have it again.

Had on tap in downtown Baltimore:
A high ABV brown ale, can't go wrong with this decision. Pours a nice mahogany color, off-white head. Sweet aroma, some brown sugar in the nose. Taste is medium bodied and surprisingly bland. For the high alcohol, there isn't much hop character and even the toffee and malts are a bit subdued, almost watery. Solid beer and very drinkable, but just tastes almost too safe and which it had a bit more flavor.
