Wow! This is one delicious, roasty brew. As a coffee/espresso lover - this really hits home. Dark, but with a lasting head. Smells of espresso. Tastes of espresso. Bitter, deep, yet smooth. A tad lighter in body than Speedway, but I'd love to try them back to back. I hope I can get this one again!
Re-review 2009 : I hate to say, but either this hit me just right when I had it last year, or this latest batch wasn't the same. Thinner than I remembered, and too much of the powdery chocolate taste that a lot of stouts have. Still a good beer, but not nearly as good as my favorites (Speedway, Ten Fidy, Expedition, Stone). We'll try it again next year...

11.5oz bottle poured into a snifter. 6 and 1 notched on the label of this twist off bottle.
A: Pours a very dark brown appearing pitch black in the glass. A mild khaki tan head sits on top, dissipating in a couple minutes.
S: Initially there is a nice dose of coffee that blends very well with a roasted malt quality. Dark fruit qualities come out more as it warms along with a touch of smokiness.
T: A beer with flavor that builds on you. At first I get a slightly bitter coffee, then a blend of dark fruit comes through. The aftertaste lingers with a great roastiness for a solid 2 minutes after each sip.
M: Very smooth beer. Creamy mouthfeel that slides like velvet over your tongue. Doesn't even seem like an alcoholic beverage. Remarkable.
Overall I am stunned with the complexity yet harmony of this beer. Coffee is just enough to add without overwhelming, hops compliment the coffee and the roastiness just works period.
