Pours deep brown, almost black. How do you give appearance a 5? Alcohol tears and spots of lace draining down from each sip. The slightest ring of tan foam for head, but it leaves a ring each time.
Coffee, charred malt, burnt bitter chocolate, earth, alcohol in the nose. Smells rich.
Big coffee and charred malt up front. Bitterness, some acid, and a hint of sweetness. Alcohol kicks in, and brings the coffee. Astringent alcohol helps the palate along. Some cassis, vanilla, and charred wood. Boozy bite of bitterness in the finish. Wow.
Full bodied, acidic, and tingly carbonation.
One of the last from this brewer to be tried by me (that I can find). Why did I wait? Amazing beer.

11.5oz bottle poured into a snifter. 6 and 1 notched on the label of this twist off bottle.
A: Pours a very dark brown appearing pitch black in the glass. A mild khaki tan head sits on top, dissipating in a couple minutes.
S: Initially there is a nice dose of coffee that blends very well with a roasted malt quality. Dark fruit qualities come out more as it warms along with a touch of smokiness.
T: A beer with flavor that builds on you. At first I get a slightly bitter coffee, then a blend of dark fruit comes through. The aftertaste lingers with a great roastiness for a solid 2 minutes after each sip.
M: Very smooth beer. Creamy mouthfeel that slides like velvet over your tongue. Doesn't even seem like an alcoholic beverage. Remarkable.
Overall I am stunned with the complexity yet harmony of this beer. Coffee is just enough to add without overwhelming, hops compliment the coffee and the roastiness just works period.
