A big thank you to JoeMayo for this in a trade.
Pours ink black, no light comes through, and a toffee colored inch head. Aroma is dark rich chocolates, prunes, and some coffee notes. Reminds me a little of chocolate dipped espresso beans. Very good marks here.
My first sip reveals the more of a pronounced coffee flavor than I expected. Some lactose sweetness too, perhaps. The chocolate flavor is here, though in smaller proportion. I hadn't realized this was a coffee beer apparently, until now. Although in looking at the bottle, I now see it reads " ...au cafe' ". I'm guessing that if I understood French, I'd learn a lot more about this delicious beer.
Full bodied mouthfeel, long finish, sweet and roasty bitter, and delicious. One of the better stouts I've had in a while, and a fantastic coffee beer as well. Will seek this out again. Cheers!
