Had this one a while back at The Moan and Dove. It didn't occur to me to review it until I came here and saw how highly it's ranked in the American Double Stout style.
It pours an opaque deep-chocolate brown, bordering on black with a fuzzy caramel head.
Nose is coffee through and through. There's a bit of chocolate buried in there somewhere, but otherwise the coffee comes out like you're sniffing a Starbuck's iced dark roast.
Taste is, well, nothing I would write home about. In short, way too much coffee and way too little stout. It's got a dark character that comes through, and it's by no means unpleasant, but I just never got any alcohol or hop character from it to indicate I was drinking a stout. Kudos to them on hiding the 9.0% abv, but it came across to me as much more of a "flavored" beer than it did a stout, and left me rather disappointed.
Mouthfeel & drinkability were both good.
And that's about it.
