11.5 oz. bottle poured into a NB globe (8 and 2 marked on the side)

A: Pitch black with a slight tan collar and minimal head.
S: Sweet roast and malts. A ton of black coffee as well.
T: Lots of black coffee with a tinge of sweetness from the roasted malt.
M: Smooth and velvety.
O: A great stout, but expensive at $10, nearly a $1 an ounce. At that price, you would think it would be BA. So many other stouts, that are more reasonably priced and just as good.

This is a 5. I can't find a thing wrong with it. Aged for sure, but the brewed in year is indeterminate.
Label is quite faded and dating is checked 7, 5. Nose reveals Sumatran coffee, milk chocolate, and
hints of light caramel. Perfectly balanced, these scents become flavors in your mouth that waltz across
the roof of your mouth. The finish doesn't bitter, just more smooth unburned coffee. You'd be
hard pressed to find a better coffee double stout. FBS, which I love, is in the backseat here....

On-tap @ Memphis Taproom in Philadelphia, PA.

#102 Top 250 Beers

Served in a wine glass. Opaque, black color with a small yet persistent tan head. Some lacing and legs when swirled around in the glass. Aroma is overwhelmingly chocolate, coffee, and raisin. Lots of the same in the flavor but with a touch of alcohol. Mouthfeel is perfect. So creamy it almost feels like a nitro draught. Full bodied and smooth. Incredibly drinkable for the strength.

I've had this from a bottle a couple of times but to have it on-tap was a rare treat, as it transformed into something even more special. If you see it at a bar or at the Dieu du Ciel brewpub and are a fan of big stouts, do not hesitate to give it a try.

Just by smelling this you can tell it is a world class beer. If you like coffee stouts, this is where its at. The coffee is so smooth and flavorful that it makes me rate this higher than FBS, which just doesn't have enough coffee in it for my taste.

If you can get your hands on this, get as much as you can!
