Impenetrable black. Small, yet rocky, tan head that laces well. Fine carbonation.
Delicious chocolate aromas. A real rich deep chocolate (fine and melted milk chocolate) mingles very well with vanilla and some hints of roast. Very nice.
More chocolate and vanilla on the palate but with a rich toasty edge. Sour dark fruit as well. Coffee like bitterness. Again, very nice.
Rich, full and well balanced feel. Finish is perhaps a touch bitter, but the taste buds slowly warm to it. Middle palate sweetness. Very solid.
Wow. Simple, yet beautiful. Not over killing the chocolate, just using high quality ingredients. Balance is the key. Highly recommended. Drinkability of this style is always low, due to the dominating chocolate. But this is well worth at least a crack (or two perhaps).

Dark brown to black colour with a creamy coffee head, showing quite strong lacing. Smell has vanilla bean, cocoa, roasty malts, some licorice, a bit of a lemon cleaner note as well. Taste is bittersweet, with lots of chocolate, mixed with vanilla and lemon, licorice, fairly nice actually, the vanilla didn't steal the show, it was a bit sweet but still refreshing. Body was moderate, smooth carbonation with a dry noticeably vanilla finish. I was worried this would be too muc a dessert beer, and tho it certainly leans that way it also has the balance and complexity to be a nice solid stout, worth trying if you see it. Very interesting mix of complex flavours, another winner from this outstanding brewery, well constructed with a nice bittersweet combo.
