Presentation: 11.5oz brown screw top with really cool label (if a bit odd name). Can't figure out the dating on this one, but it's at LEAST two years old, which is about how long I've had it.
Appearance: Warm mahogany beer with a creamy ivory cap with decent retention for the age and the abv. A good bit of tiny sediment in suspension.
Smell: Warm, sticky dark fruit (dates, raisins, and figs) with toasty, bready malts, and a good dash of caramel. Not shocking depth, but quite pleasant.
Taste: Cherries, a bit of cola, a fair amount of heat, especially considering the age. A firm hop bitterness, compared with the alcohol, makes this seem more bitter than it should. A bit of dry bready flavor which is nice, but this doesn't quite come together as it should; perhaps a bit past the peak?
Overall: Not bad per se, but not particularly inspiring. Again, perhaps this is a bit over the hill, but it doesn't taste oxidized or anything like that. It just doesn't come together quite as it might.

I have no idea how old this bottle is - the notches on the numbers on the side of the bottle seem to line up with a 1 and a 0; could that possibly mean this is from 2010? I've had it in my DBF in the cellar for awhile, but I wouldn't have guessed any more than a year. . . .
A: Poured from the bottle into a Piraat tulip/snifter-type glass. The body is the color of iced tea - murky or hazy iced tea - but when backlit it's more mahogany or even ruby. Small thin khaki-colored head on top disappears immediately. No real lacing other than some short-lived "legs" after each sip.
S: Brown bread, brown sugar and spiced apples - think those mulling spices you put in cider. Also a touch of alcohol is noted.
T: Similar to the nose, I get apple pie-type flavors: overripe apples, brown sugar and some spices (cinnamon, maybe cardamom). Some bread dough too. Alcohol is fairly well hidden on the palate, but shows up as a drying element in the aftertaste; heat is felt in the belly right away.
M: It's low in carbonation and a little watery for such a "big" style (and given the high ABV).
O: Good but not great.
