Draft at the DDC pub in Montreal.

A: Pours a slightly hazy medium amber in colour with a solid 3 fingers of thick off-white head. Good retention and a solid amount of lacing around the glass.

S: Very sweet with overripe banana and stone fruit (mostly peaches) together with caramel, species and a noticeable alcohol presence.

T: Follows the smell with initial sweetness of stone fruits, banana, candi sugar following by spices and candied orange peel, biscuit and big alcohol presence.

M: Medium bodied with moderate carbonation.

O: A very tasty and complex tripel, however purists will not enjoy the noticeable alcohol presence in the smell or taste.

Beer is amber, dark gold. Nice white head. Good retention.

Smell consists of sweet bread, honey, some yeast and some light fruit.

Taste involves some boozy caramel malt, Belgian yeast, light fruit (I get peach), and honey. Quite tasty.

Chewy, rich and full bodied. Moderate carbonation. Alcohol is noticeable.

Overall, quite a tasty tripel. Tastewise, I am between 4 and 4.5.

on tap at the brewpub, served in a tulip.

Pours a hazy golden, very thick white head forms, settles down to a solid ring around the glass, a few lace spots stick.

Smell is nice, big and boozy, spicey, some banana, very fruity, apricots and peaches, caramel and sugary sweetness, vanilla, alcohol, quite nice.

Taste is nice too, sweet up front, caramel/sugar, very fruity, banana, candi, vanilla spice, biscuit, orange peel, alcohol, sweet finish, goes down easy.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied, a little thick for a tripel, medium to high carbonation, a bit of heat but quite nice.

This beer appears a slightly hazy medium straw colour, with a little thin white head, that leaves a bit of lace in its wake. It smells of yeast, banana, clove, and booze. The taste is sweet yeasty white grain, and sozzled white fleshy fruit. The carbonation is mild, the body smooth and gummy, and it finishes dry, and warm from a stewing fruit essence. An underlying metallic edge builds as the beer warms. I wouldn't really be motivated to have more than one.

Poured into a sam adams fancy pint glass.

One finger tan head, translucent amber body, head drops slowly. Smokey sweet nose, yum. Sweet Belgian yeast, perfect balance on the tongue, almost spicy, maybe holiday spice aftertaste. Very drinkable, great mouthfeel.

Board listed this as 8.5%, but I’m pretty sure this is the right beer.

Aroma: Belgian yeast with a citric and banana ester nose. Spot on for style.

Appearance: Deep gold with a full and fluffy white head that lasts and laces nicely.

Flavor: Orange juice! Almost concentrated OJ! White pepper spice, floral hops and a slight perfumed quality add complexity.

Mouthfeel: Low carbonation, an acidic feel and slightly oily texture.

Overall Impression: Rich taste, nice feel, very citric, a great Tripple!

Dated June 2003, sampled at the brewpub's 7th anniversary party.

Appearance: Oily, golden with a froth of patchy lace.

Smell: Highly madeirized (spelling?), i liked the fact that it had a powerful, meadish aroma, with a little grape that reminded me of a pineau de charentes. It did however have a little asparagus effluves, which didn't sit well with everyone.

Taste: Fruity, with a long lasting white wine finish, low carbonation, and the booze is quite dominant, some complex alcohols were noticeable and gave it that "aged" taste. Good, but I think it was a bit past it's prime.

From recently found notes: As I put in my recent reviews from a June visit to Montreal/Mondial/Dieu Du Ciel. I ask myself how I never put in my review for this awesome beer. A dark honeyed golden with a nice small fizzy head of off-white that leaves some lacing but does not last forever. Aromas are nice and yeasty with a bit of booze in the aroma as well. Fruity banana esters make their presence known and other spicy coriander notes round out the aroma profile which is a bit "hot" and "thin" but still "nice". Taste is quite good with the alcohol not being to in your face, and the nice fruity spicy yeasty flavors coming into their own and blending into a nice flavor profile. Mouthfeel is a bit thick, but just about right, and drinkability is good too...

Slight haze, golden colour. Even from a pour that produced a thin head, it's still dense and a bit rocky. Great head retention and lacing. Light yeastiness in the aroma as well as malty grain and fruity esters. A bit of alcohol peeks through and I believe I detected the smell of corn as well. Alcohol flavour is very prominent all the way through and is backed up by moderate bitterness and dark fruits. Hop flavours meld in at the mid-point and lead to a dryish finish that's a bit peppery. Medium bodied with moderately high carbonation and a slightly airy mouthfeel. Nice beer, but not one of my favourites from Dieu du Ciel.

Orange-amber, very slightly hazy hue is mounted by a small white head that fades slowly, but completely. Lots of fruit esters in the nose (banana, oranges) over a liquorous floral background. Some spiciness I can’t pinpoint, but mostly herbal. Very strong alcohol wise, very warming and perhaps too much so for my liking combined with the high sweetness level. There’s quite a noble hop dryness/bitterness kicking in toward the end, but it doesn’t cut the alcohol and quickly tames the palate. One to give you headaches after a few glasses.
