Enjoyed on tap at the brewpub. Massive head, one half inch is retained, and I did not pour it myself. Coffee aroma. I liked that it was understated coffee taste with a significant hopping. Perfect lace, very drinkable. Caramel, some chocolate malts, vanilla, great roast. No astringency.

On tap at the brewery. Served in a half pint glass.

Appearance - Shy of black. Ruby flecks. Big khaki head. Excellent lacing and a nice thick collar.

Smell - Vanilla and chocolate. Not quite dark chocolate. Smoother roastiness.

Taste - Vanilla and chocolate. Very tasty. Roastier as the vanilla fades. Some burnt coffee roast in the back end.

Mouthfeel - Creamy. Medium bodied.

Overall - The more of this I drink, the better it gets. Really well made beer. Spectacular flavor for its size.

First time I've seen the porter offered on cask, sweet!

Appearance and smell are fairly similar to the tap version, except maybe the head that dies down to a quiet lacing a bit quicker.

Good coffee tartness, with hints of dark chocolate, was a bit smoother due to the lower carbonation, but, for a rare occasion...

*sacrilege* I think the regular on tap version better */sacrilege*

black with rusty tinges around the edge... A thick 1cm head. Wonderful roasty notes up front combine with some softer caramel, which fade to a more chocolate-like finish. It lingers with a combination of bittersweet malts and hops. This IS what a great porter should be.

Black. Lasting light brown head. Light coffee in the nose, very roasty. A touch of lactic chocolate. Quite typical. Same lactic bite on the tongue. Nutty, milky, roasted chocolate. Light-medium body, rather creamy. A style that is tough to get for me at times.

Notes from the brewpub last night. First beer of the night without Nitro.

A- Black porter poured into a mini 12oz glass. Nice mocha head forms with good size and retention, no need for the Nitro to boost apperance. Lace coats everything.

S- Cereal grains and roasty caramel malt feel, cocoa and coffee as well. That cereal grain note in DDC beer rules.

T- Has a very grainy and slight oxidized main flavor. Dark raisin cherry and dark cocoa powder round it off. Also coffee and roast barley with some earthy hops, brown sugar.

MF- Carbonated moderately and a foamy overall body. Cocoa bitters finish it out.

Grainy porter overall with a good fruit presence. Drinks quite easily.

On-tap at DDC.

Beer is black. with a small to moderate tan head. Head fades fairly quickly, some lace.

Nose contains roasted malt, chocolate and a bit of vanilla.

Flavour includes roasted malt, some caramel and bitter chocolate. Coffee flavours as well. On the bitter side. Good.

Medium to full bodied, but overly carbonated for the style. A bit irritating. The only letdown.

Overall, good stuff.

A - Pours pitch black, thumb of mocha head with solid retention and solid sheeting lacing.

S - Nose is dominated by dark cocoa and espresso, raw coffe grinds and a milk chocolate finish.

T - The milk chocolate notes dominate, nice sweetness that balances nicely with dark cocoa malts, hints of vanilla and a touch of raw leather on the finish.

M - Medium bodied, smooth and a touch of dryness.

O - Another tasty brew at the DDC brew pub, loads of flavour and well worth seeking out. A brew that would be incredibly sessionable in a bottle, and certainly a treat to anyone who is lucky enough to get their hands on some.

Perhaps the best beer produced at this Montreal brewpub.
A big dark malt flavor and residual sweetness, with a slight hop bite at the end to balance it all out. Though the flavor is big, the brew is evenly bodied and not overwhelming.

One of the best Porters I have ever had! This awesome cask-conditioned porter was an opaque black colour with a little tan head. The aromas were of coffee and dark roasted malts. The taste was more of the same. The mouthfeel was super creamy and the drinkability was excellent!
An excellent porter from Dieu Du Ciel!
Is it better than C'est Whats coffee porter? Only time will tell...

On tap at brewpub. Coal like appearance, nominal head. Aroma of espresso and dark chocloate. Fairly thin mouthfeel/body but with a full roasty taste that compensates for the thinness Decent hoppiness shines through and it finishes quite dry and bitter. Nice effort.
