Poured out a very dark brown in light, with almost no head and light lacing throughout.
Smell was just like a normal IPA. Light sweet smell but also hints of roasted malts and even some caramel.
Taste is mostly sweet malt, with some good caramel flavor. Not much dark or roasted about the taste.
Mouthfeel is very light and fizzy with carbonation.
A bit thicker than a normal IPA, makes it a little less drinkable than average.

From an 11.5oz bottle. Pours a very dark brown with a few bubbles but no real head. Smells like toasted malt and chocolate. Medium body with a silky feel. Tastes starts out with roasted malt and earthiness, then pine or spruce and a dry hop finish. I find myself agreeing with other reviews that the whole black IPA style is a bit conflicted. This beer has most of the makings of a good dry stout. If I were brewing it, I might rebalance and go in that direction.

Très rond - moins dry/hoppy que la Eclipse.

A- Pours a black color with brown tinges around the top ring of the liquid....perhaps even a smidge of red in there too! The head is soapy film in character and isn't very thick but what does show up retains very well! It's much too hard to see any sort of carbonation and the lacing is quite impressive with many tiny patches of bubbly goodness clinging to the side of the glass, with an underlying oily film.....good overall!
S- Heavy charred malts, dark cocoa, french roast coffee, licorice, spices along with syrupy sweetness....this is quite a different smelling brew but very nice actually!
T- This is much different than I expected.....it's a short burst of various flavors and then it's gone. Roast coffee and deep high cocoa content chocolate are noted, along with toasty barley malts are the main flavors and there is a dry Earthy finish, that is complimented by some moderate hop bitterness....nothing major however for a version of IPA. Nice overall!
M/O- Light/medium bodied and smooth yet plentiful carbonation, I would say that this is an enjoyable, and highly drinkable Ale that I would most definitely purchase again....I recommend giving this a try....another good effort by Dieu du Ciel!
