Its body is a rich shade of apricot orange and partially hazed. A healthy two fingers of frothy white head waits patiently to fall. After a few swirls, alcohol film coats the sides of the glass.
Overly ripe, juicy, saliva-inducing pineapple flesh slowly oozes out of the glass. At the edges of this syrupy sweet center are more unrefined green and leafy hop notes. Sweet alcohol pulls through but its weight is masked by its tropical sweetness. Its got that classic Belgian dusty character to the nose with some spice and phenols thrown in as well.
The kick of booziness that hits the back of the palate coincides with long, sweet notes of pineapple and mango skin. The alcohol is warming everywhere it goes but is not overpowering. As it continues into the finish, it becomes more dry, spicy, and phenollic. A hint of warm biscuit closes things out.
With such a full body and high ABV, it's incredible how drinkable this is. Slightly under carbonated with some syrupy stickiness. The alcohol has a great drying effect that gives this a concise close; one of my favorite features of this beer.
Another home run for DDC. I had the privilege of having this on tap at the brewpub last summer and my eyes lit up when I saw this on the shelf. The big syrupy tropical character the citra hops impart plays so well off of the staple characteristics of the Tripel that DDC renders. It's dangerously good.

Poured from a 341ml bottle into a stemmed tulip glass.

A: Pours a hazy copper color up to 2-3 fingers of creamy, persistent head slowly falling to a thick color and curtains of lace.
S: Big hop nose: tangerines, grapefruit, lemon and spice. Some nice biscuit malt notes. Nice yeast presence. Very floral/herbal. Very intriguing!
T: Very tropical with lots of tangerine, mango, papaya; big malt presence with caramel and toffee. There is lots of yeast dancing around highlighting banana and spice. Floral on the palate as well. Some warm alcohol.
M: Medium + body and nice carbonation yields a creamy, velvety and crisp beer.
O: Just a really interesting beer! There is a lot going on; Herbe highlights the the hops, malts and yeast all i the same beer. I always look forward to this release.

A: Pours a cloudy golden orange with a creamy, thick white head.
S: Aromas of lemon, tangerine, grapefruit, lime, herbs, minerals, biscuit, caramel, and spicy yeast are present on the nose.
T: Flavors of lemon, lime, kumquats, grapefruit, mandarin orange, tangerine, herbs, cream, caramel, minerals, biscuit, crackers, and funky, spicy yeast fill the mouth. The finish is fruity and warming with grapefruit, mandarin orange, tangerine, and caramel notes gradually subsumed by peppery, prickly alcohol.
M: Fairly full and silky in body, though to me, it seems somewhat thinner than some of the more traditional Belgian takes on the style. Carbonation is active, but delicate. Alcohol is pronounced, but nothing out of the ordinary for the style.
O: A very respectable New World take on a traditional Belgian abbey style. I could see this going over very well with hopheads open to Continental ale styles.

Poured from the bottle into a tulip glass. I have been wanting this beer for AGES, and strangely found it not at the brewpub in Montreal no... not even in bottle shops there.. no.. but where... at State Line of course! What an irony, I didn't even have to leave my state to get this dang beer!
A nice tangerine and bright shiny but dark orange color. Head barely forms with one finger forced on an aggressive pour providing and off white colored head which manages to stay populated and settle to a half finger collar. Some large amounts of very small microscopic rising carbonation can just barely be seen. Faint spider legs of lace a well.
Nose is interesting. Quite juicy smelling and fruity for a tripel, some mellow floral earthy qualities but not much else, and an almost soapy perfume like quality but with more soap than beautiful aromatics.
Palate is quite interesting. Good juicy tropical body with a very noticeable boozy quality which is luckily not too untolerable. Hints of peach and mango, with a large stomach warming swallow. Hints of pear and apple manage to appear also. Nice depth but nothing really coating, and definitely not big on sucrose.
Overall glad to have tried this, pretty good, and definitely a non traditional spin on the style which is interesting and enjoyable.

A - Pours a pale golden color with a minimal white head.
S - yeast, lemon and mild spice ;clean.
T - lemon citrus, hop and coriander.
M - Medium body and low carbonation. Good balance.
O - Good Tripel, though lacks some complexity to among the best.

Enjoyed on tap at Beer Revolution in Calgary. A tripel spiked with Citra hops, this pungent brew comes decked out in rich orange garb with a dappling of white foam, releasing a strong aroma of spicy and fruity Belgian yeast, aromatic alcohol, and New World elements of pine and citrus. Tastes of candied citrus, mainly mandarins and grapefruit, passion fruit and lychee, spicy clove and ginger phenolics, vanilla custard, an earthy cigar tobacco-like floral perfume, carrots, and ample alcohol that might lean just this side of overbearing. I get more sweet dark malt character than with other tripels, some toffee that plays nicely off the fruit and spice elements from the hops and yeast. Body quite chewy and the finish is bitter, piney and medicinal like that of other highly-hopped tripels I've tried (see my review of La Chouffe Dobbelen for more on this). Moderate carbonation. There might be too much going on in this beer for some palates and it ain't for the meek. Tripels are an acquired taste period and this one is a bit iconoclastic. Rough around the edges but could be a diamond if polished a bit more.

Pours orange/amber with a small head.
Nose shows herbal hops, spicy Belgian phenols, booze, some light syrupy malt. Some fruit shows up later.
More spicy phenolic notes as flavours along with slightly solvent-like booze. some light fruit again. A bit too boozy.
Carbonation could be higher.

Pours bright pale orange with an off-white slight head and a ring of retention. A little clingy lace.
Citric hops and boozy tropical fruit in the nose.
Citric ring happiness up front. Peaches, tropical fruit and booze and yeast. Bitterness comes thru later. Nice citric rind hop bitterness in a long finish.
Fuller bodied, modest carbonation.
Tasty and different. Nice blend of styles.
