Poured from the bottle into a tulip glass. I have been wanting this beer for AGES, and strangely found it not at the brewpub in Montreal no... not even in bottle shops there.. no.. but where... at State Line of course! What an irony, I didn't even have to leave my state to get this dang beer!

A nice tangerine and bright shiny but dark orange color. Head barely forms with one finger forced on an aggressive pour providing and off white colored head which manages to stay populated and settle to a half finger collar. Some large amounts of very small microscopic rising carbonation can just barely be seen. Faint spider legs of lace a well.

Nose is interesting. Quite juicy smelling and fruity for a tripel, some mellow floral earthy qualities but not much else, and an almost soapy perfume like quality but with more soap than beautiful aromatics.

Palate is quite interesting. Good juicy tropical body with a very noticeable boozy quality which is luckily not too untolerable. Hints of peach and mango, with a large stomach warming swallow. Hints of pear and apple manage to appear also. Nice depth but nothing really coating, and definitely not big on sucrose.

Overall glad to have tried this, pretty good, and definitely a non traditional spin on the style which is interesting and enjoyable.

Enjoyed on tap at Beer Revolution in Calgary. A tripel spiked with Citra hops, this pungent brew comes decked out in rich orange garb with a dappling of white foam, releasing a strong aroma of spicy and fruity Belgian yeast, aromatic alcohol, and New World elements of pine and citrus. Tastes of candied citrus, mainly mandarins and grapefruit, passion fruit and lychee, spicy clove and ginger phenolics, vanilla custard, an earthy cigar tobacco-like floral perfume, carrots, and ample alcohol that might lean just this side of overbearing. I get more sweet dark malt character than with other tripels, some toffee that plays nicely off the fruit and spice elements from the hops and yeast. Body quite chewy and the finish is bitter, piney and medicinal like that of other highly-hopped tripels I've tried (see my review of La Chouffe Dobbelen for more on this). Moderate carbonation. There might be too much going on in this beer for some palates and it ain't for the meek. Tripels are an acquired taste period and this one is a bit iconoclastic. Rough around the edges but could be a diamond if polished a bit more.

Pours orange/amber with a small head.
Nose shows herbal hops, spicy Belgian phenols, booze, some light syrupy malt. Some fruit shows up later.
More spicy phenolic notes as flavours along with slightly solvent-like booze. some light fruit again. A bit too boozy.
Carbonation could be higher.

Pours bright pale orange with an off-white slight head and a ring of retention. A little clingy lace.

Citric hops and boozy tropical fruit in the nose.

Citric ring happiness up front. Peaches, tropical fruit and booze and yeast. Bitterness comes thru later. Nice citric rind hop bitterness in a long finish.

Fuller bodied, modest carbonation.

Tasty and different. Nice blend of styles.

Drank from my Duvel pilsen

A - Pours a clear beautiful pale golden colour with a pure white fluffy head that just looks so inviting. This beer says drink me !

S - heavy yeast and bread with some lemon and some German frankfurter.

T - Up front some very nice lemon citrus flavours with a nice hop backbone. The true Tripel flavour kicks in before this frankfurter thing kicks in and I actually quite like it !

M - Medium body and low carbonation. Very smooth !

O - I loved this Tripel. It has something different whilst retaining the classic Tripel aspects..

A-Pours a very hazy, bright orange. Small head, especially for a style than often brings forth huge head.

S-I like the aroma. Not heavy in the Tripel yeast which I find rather unappetizing. The Citra hops lay down some cool peach, melon and mango aromas. Fruit juice hops. Smells more like a Belgian IPA.

T-The flavor is also pretty delectable. It's hops forward, and I even think the bottle has a bit too much age on it. It's got a lot of liquor-soaked peach, apricot and mango notes with citrusy flavors coming in the same march. A hint of Belgian spice and yeast.

M-Hot but still drinkable.mnot as bitter as I was expecting. A sipper but easier to drink than almost every Tripel I have had.

O/D-Tripels are among my most disliked styles of beer. I only shell out greenbacks when I really am interested by the beer's specs or I trust the brewery. Well a Tripel with Citra brewed by Dieu Du Ciel is worth a spend. Great brewery with a cool take on the style. And it was one of the two or three best Tripels I have had. As it warms it gets funkier and all around tastier.i would preferably serve this far warmer than fridge temp. It really opens up and gets better and better.

Pours a translucent yellow. Good head/lacing.

Smells of candy. Tinned peaches. Potent candy. Little bit of Tripel mango.

Taste is more tinned peaches, but lacks a cloying quality you might expect. More mango.

Mouthfeel is slightly syrupy peaches with a slight alcohol bite.

Best you can hope for in a Tripel.

330 mL bottle poured into a pint glass.

Appearance - Hazy bright orange. Nice white head. Thick collar.

Smell - Citrus hops. Strong belgian yeast. Very fruity. Candy and doughy sweetness.

Taste - Orangey fruit. Sweet malts. A little yeasty. Moderate bitterness.

Mouthfeel - Medium heavy. Lacks a bit of crispness. Medium carbonation.

Overall - Good tripel. The hop bitterness could be higher. Just a little to heavy.
