Taken from notes.

Appearance: Muddy mahogany color with little head or effervescence.

Smell: Aroma is of medium intensity. Caramel, toffee, dried fruit, candy sugar, faint alcohol and faint woody notes as well.

Taste: Medium high in intensity. Dominant caramel, malty profile with burnt flavors and protuberant vegetable like notes. Decent.

Mouthfeel: Medium light body. Medium bitterness. Medium low carbonation. Watery texture. Dry finish with short-lasting earthy aftertaste.

Overall: An interesting brew that just doesn't cut for me. As a whole it's pretty average. I think this would work a lot better if it was a bit fuller.

A: More cloudy then I expected but it does have the right color of an alt. Brownish ruby color with finger of slightly off white head. Decent lacing an retention.

S: Sweet malts come through. Caramel, toast, along the lines of that.

T: Melanoidinesque flavors definitely come through. Caramel, toasted bread, are most prominent. More hops then the aroma would lead one to believe as well. Fairly bitter and a slight bit of noble hop flavor is detectable.

M: Carbonation, like i feel on all of dieu de ciels beers, is perhaps a touch low for my liking but its well done enough.

O: A good beer overall and i'd love to pair some mexican food with it.

341ml bottle bought from Brewdogs online shop

Poured a nice deep orange brown colour.. Slightly off white head pours thick and foamy then faded slowly to nice thin layer... barely any carbonation... decent amount of sticky lacing...

Aroma - Nice biscuity / toffee malts, juicy fruits (oranges, apples, light raisins), sea salty notes, caramel / honey sweet notes, some light nutmeg / cinnamon traces, maybe the slightest hint of sweetcorn, peppery hops..

Taste– - Strong biscuity malts, caramel / toffee, some creamed corn / grainy notes, light spicy hops, the faintest of smokey traces, earthiness, light nutmeg, some light oakiness...

Feel - Pretty smooth and creamy... medium body... A very drinkable brew

Overall - A very good example of a well balanced Altbier... well worth a try...

Copper red with half inch of fine beige head that quickly reduced to a slick. Very good lacing.

The aroma of sweetbread and steely caramel.

Strong favour of roasted grains. Woody - oak and birch. Sweet ripe fruit - prunes. Spice - cinnamon. Hop bitterness in the back of the mouth.

A medium unremarkable feel.

A very drinkable altbier. Lots of complexity and very nice roasted malt taste.

Bottled July 2013

Beer is reddish-brown in colour, with a small beige head. Head fades but not completely.

Nose is malty, sweet bread scents and caramel. Grassy, earthy scents. A slight bit of dark fruit, perhaps raisin.

Taste is similar. Malt focused, bread and caramel. Mildly sweet. A notable wood flavour, pine. Also some dark fruit, raisin and plum. The fruit is pretty low down. The pine and wood flavours present a bit of spiciness.

Medium bodied, moderately carbonated. Quite chewy.

Overall, not quite my style, but flavourful and enjoyable.

A bit hard to find altbiers around here, this example from Quebec pours a coppery gold with ample off white foam. Aroma is tangy, fruity, sweet, some peppery coriander and nutmeg like notes although there is no such spice in the beer. Palate starts with pretty big burnt caramel malts, with toast and dark bread crust, fairly impressive bitter spicy hops relative to others of this style. Initially I had a bit of trouble getting past the malts up front to catch other flavor elements but as things progressed I started to get some vinous fruit, sour gummy candy, a bit of yeasty dankness, spicy root cellar and more bitterness at the end, perhaps some metal like sucking on a coin. Its sweet as well but this is less obvious at first. An interesting array of tastes that unfolds as you go: Have two or three and you'll probably notice different things each time, with the malts in control for one bottle and more fruit and hops in the next. Not too shabby and intriguing if you want to pay close attention for a session.

341ml bottle served in a pint glass.

A: Pours a copper red color forming a big creamy, thin bubbled and soapy head. Good retention and tons of soapy lingering lacings left in the glass

S: Roasted malts and caramel, mainly. A little bit metallic. Light notes of bread and flowery hops

T: Sweet upfront. Caramel, caramel, malts, sweet grains, bread and roasted grains. Light metallic notes. Medium and nice hops bitterness in the end. Quite good bittersweet balance

M: Light body. Watery. Medium carbonation and a delicious caramel and malts aftertaste

O: Good drinkability. Great Altbier. Dieu Du Ciel! quality
