On-tap at DDC.

Slightly cloudy golden in colour, with a small white head that stays for a long time.

Very light aroma, both in intensity and character. Light fruit, a bit of spice, wheat and bubblegum.

Taste contains wheat, with a bubblegum flavour. Some of what I am tasting is probably the buckwheat, but I can't place that flavour specifically. Spices are present, with a touch of yeast, but not much. I would like a bit more of a yeast flavour, but it is tasty.

Medium bodied, low carbonation. Bready. Rather refreshing.

Overall, a pretty good saison.

On tap at the brewpub, served in a tulip glass. Almost-clear golden honey-coloured body with streams of visible carbonation. Nice frothy bright-white head leaves lots of sticky lacing.

The nose presents lots of pungent grain, yeast, slight funk, metallic minerals, light spices and a good sugary malt base. Pretty nice nose, though I prefer a little more spicing in a saison.

The flavour is more bitter and less sugary than expected. Sweet malt from the nose is replaced by a good dose of earthy, slightly-herbal hops. The buckwheat adds its light tanginess. Spicing is very subtle here, but I think I can make out pepper, coriander and something like nutmeg. Alcohol might be a little obvious, especially at only 6.5% ABV. Good stuff nonetheless.

Very decent feel; light-medium body made fuller by an active, but not distracting, carbonation.

Not the greatest saison I've had but certainly a good one. I like what the buckwheat added to the mix but could possibly stand to have even more, along with intensified spices and smoother alcohol. Definitely worth a try if you run into it.
