Above-average beer (though only average stout) enjoyed on-tap at the brewpub.Cold coffee that has been roasted but is creamy, definately affected by the nitro-tap treatment. Astringent bitter yet still well malted. COffee aroma. Grainy and creamy mouthfeel. Surprising 33 IBU and under 5% abv.

(maybe they changed the recipe, but on the menu it said Oatmeal stout..is it the same?)

black beer, with a dense light brownchocolate head.
laces on the glass.

smell torrefication of the malt. some chocolate

taste is a bit special, with a evident nut flavor. You get the chocolate and torrefied taste as well but with another dimension.

mouthfeel is very smooth and quite dense texture, medium carbonation. a creamy beer.

drinkability: really good stuff.

A- Nice speckled lacing. Rarely seen lacing like this before. Brown and Black. Head lasts very long and when it did settle I was still left with a good centimeter.

S- Sweet roasted malt, resulting in dark chocolate and day old coffee. Hops once it gets to room temp.

T- Roasted malt and hops in their most basic but enjoyable form. Watery.

M- Quite smooth with it's low to medium carbonation. Gets pretty thin near the end of the pint, probably due to fading carbonation.

D- High.

Not delicious, but well worthy.

Wanted to drink an enjoyable stout (since DDC hadn't any that night) so I went to the CHEVAL BLANC after a long hiatus. At first, smell was strange. I tought it smelled butterscotch and coconut liquorice roll. It seems they wanted to play a little with their repice because the taste was also very different since last times! At first, I was shocked: It tasted like dry charcoal and very roasted hops. But it grows on you! So I took another one. A beautiful creamy body... maybe it's more a Sweet Stout than an « American Stout » ? Who knows...

Another great Montreal stout! This one is a dark opaque black colour with a small but dense tan head of creamy foam. The aroma is of buttery maple syrup, roasted grain notes, chocolate, and a bit of coffee. This is very roasty and malty with some nice chocolate/coffee tones and a mean hop bite in the finish. This is like a sweeter/grainer version of Shakespeare stout. A little sweet/buttery for my tastes but still damn good!

I was hoping for a black beer, but when this turned out to be a Stout, well, I wasn't disapointed in the least. Beer when served was very black and opaque, topped with a cappacino looking head. Aroma was fruity and of good dark chocolate. Mouthfeel was interesting...comes across as very creamy, but the beer itself is a bit watery. Still good though, as it is full on with roasted coffee and mocha flavors, very good and tasty to drink.
