A- poured into snifter. Pours very very dark ruby red. With a quick fading bone colored head.
S- tons of bourbon, sweet Carmel, some vanilla, dark fruit, roasty malt, some chocolate.
T- sweet dark fruit up front, caramel flavors, plenty of nice bourbon flavors, vanilla, nice malt caricature
M- nice thickness, slightly syrupy as to be expected with the abv
O - the smell on this is definitely amazing, all of the flavors you would expect but balanced all so well. You get a lot of the sweetness that comes with a fresh bourbon county stout. you get a lot of black cherry, and plum flavors. I am not a big barley wine fan but I have to say that I really really enjoyed this. Phone fully the sweetness will fall off with some age, I can only imagine it will get even better

Another outstanding brew from Goose Island. What it lacks in appearance it makes up for in taste, twofold. Barleywines, nowadays, seem to lack that barley presence in favor of the coffee/chocolate tastes. This is not one of those. The head lacing are virtually nonexistent. So what? If you have no fear of the dark you will feel right at home here.
