12oz to a snifter, bottled 24 September 2013
Pours a very dark muddy brown, nearly black. You can see the yeast sediment floating around when looking closely, but impossible to see through the other side of the glass, even when held up to the sun. Almost no head, just a bit of foam that has moved to a thin ring on the sides of the glass, moderate carbonation and good lacing
Smells of strong bourbon, oak, toffee, toasted brown sugar and molasses, caramel and hints of vanilla and chocolate, finishes with a nice splash of alcohol. Very complex and sweet, reminds me a lot of sucaba
Taste of oak and dark chocolate chocolate, bourbon, roast toffee and butterscotch, molasses and vanilla, with a boozy caramel finish. Deviates from the nose a bit but tastes pretty much just as good
Feel is a very thick heavy body, very sticky and syrupy. Alcohol is hidden pretty well but still drinks a little warm. Perfect for the winter
Overall a near flawless representation of a BBA English barley wine. Can't wait to open the rest a few years down the road, here's to hoping this becomes a regular in the bcb line up!

I don't grade lightly, but wow.
A: dark, deep English chestnut, not quite fully opaque. Short lived head minimal lacing.
S: like someone carmelizing figs with molasses and butter. The smell on the finish persists forv long, long time.
T: same as the smell, but the buttery flavors are stronger. The bourbon and the alcohol are hidden. Unlike the stout this just picks up toffee and caramel along with some vanilla oak.
M: again buttery. This coats your whole mouth, and remains after you swallow. It's is viscous and the carbonation is just right.
O: can't conceive of something better. As good perhaps, but this is sublime.
