12oz bottle into tulip. Bottled 9/24/13.
A: Pours a deep dark caramel brown with a very short lived and surprisingly fizzy light brown head that quickly disappeared into nothingness. No lace.
S: Sweet notes of bourbon, caramel, brown sugar and molasses. Booze comes through as well. Not as potent or rich as I was hoping.
T: Rich and potent flavors of chocolate fudge, boozy bourbon barrel, vanilla, toast and caramel come through. Sticky raisin, brown sugar sweetness, and candied dates come to mind as well. I get notes of leather and honey in the finish, and the aftertaste is full of brown sugar sweetness, melted chocolate, and smooth bourbon. More chocolate flavors in this than I was expecting.
M: Very thick and heavy body, heavy and chew mouthfeel, and surprisingly frothy carbonation that foams up on my palate. The finish has a touch of alcohol warmth to it, but overall the booze is hidden very nicely. The mouthfeel is very smooth and decadent, but it also has a strong bitter punch in the finish.
O: A very solid easy to drink barrel aged barleywine. I think another year or two on this and it will be even better. Not my favorite at the moment, but definitely top tier.

Surprisingly on tap at San Diego Brewing Co, poured into an 8 oz goblet
A: Cola-like color, no head and viscous.
S: Booze and toffee are the prominent aromas. Notes of coconut, nutmeg, oak and cherry as we'll. Strong bouquet carried by ample alcohol volatiles.
T: Flavors follow but notes of vanilla are right at the front. Also picking up notes of tobacco and ripe fruit. Finishes long and sweet with lots residue between sips...in a good way.
M: chewy, sticky, yummy
Serving type: on-tap
