A - No more than a finger's worth of slightly late to develop dense and creamy vibrant medium khaki colored froth... Minimal retention gives way to a full layer of rich decedent lacing... The color is a mix of blood red and muddy light brown... Mostly translucent... A moderate bit of small bubbled and quick paced carbonation can be seen deep within the glass... A good bit of lacing clings to the glass...

S - Loaded with toffee goodness and dark fruits... These aroma dominate, but a bit beneath the surface is a nice mix of complimentary scents... Rye bread... Pumpernickel Bread... Coca-cola... Some cherry aroma... Overall the aroma is a tad bit cloying...

T - The sweetness is dialed down a bit on the palate but it's still at the forefront... Brown sugar... Caramel... Toffee... Fruit cake... Artificial cherry sweetness... A light bitterness emerges... Some charred / burnt notes on the finish...

M - Starts with a bit of lushness... On the lighter side of medium bodied... The carbonation is very limited... The finish is surprisingly dry... There is also a touch of chalkiness on the finish... A slight burnt texture intensifies on the deep finish...

D - Goose Island describes this one as a festive brown ale and I can't disagree... A very interesting interpretation of the style... It's not a home run by any means, but it's a solid single that could be stretched into a double.. The component needed the most work is the mouthfeel... The burnt texture on the deep finish that I can't personally seem to get past detracts from an otherwise solid offering... Worth checking out, but not worth going out of your way for...

Served in a Lagunitas mason jar.

Almost...time...to...rest... Anyway, this stuff pours a clear sunset russet-garnet-ruby topped by a finger or so of wan dirty-khaki foam. The nose comprises Belgian candi sugar, pine sap, light maple syrup, light cardamom, and a touch of candied orange peel. The taste brings in more of the same, along with veins of spruce, rather mild ginger, and a touch of spearmint. The mixture of flavors doesn't come together well at all, clashing occurring at every possible point, my tongue yearning for peace to once again descend upon the land. In vain. The body is a light medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a fluid feel. Overall, I found this beer to be too much for its own good, the flavors just not cooperating at all (unless their end goal was one of anarchy, complete and unfettered lawlessness and absurdity). Not gonna have this one again, unless they significantly alter the recipe.

Picked up at my fav bottle shop for a steal- (sixer @ 4.99)
Dated Sept 13, 2013.
Pours a murky reddish brown, with good 3/4 inch off foam that subsides to good cap with lacing.
Smell is wonderful , dark fruits- nuts- crackers- hops.
Taste follows on as rather complex with the fruits first , then the caramel-cracker malts asserting themselves in the middle and a pleasant licorice spiciness along with some hops bitterness nand alcohol warmth on the long finish.
Mouth- good med.-leaning toward heavy feel. Coats the mouth nicely.
Overall a very good red-brown ale . Brewery notes say it can be kept for best results to 1 year. I'm holding on the remaining for Sept.

A - Pours a hazy reddish-brown with a two-finger tan head. Light sticky lacing.

S - Sweet malt, toffe, and a hint of alcohol.

T - Starts sweet with brown sugar, caramel malts, and dark fruits. There is some eathery hops in the finish producing some lingering bitterness.

M - Medium bodied with medium carbonation. Chewy mouthfeel with a sticky finish.

O - A nice beer. A little too sweet to have more than one in a sitting. This would make a nice winter sipper.

Presentation: It was poured from a brown 12 oz bottle into a tulip glass.

Appearance: It has a hazy brownish mahogany color with a tall slow fading head on top. This head is creamy light tan in color makes cool lacing on the glass.

Smell: The aroma is an odd mix of overly sweet malt, spices, hops and orange peel.

Taste / Palate: Just the the aroma the taste is an odd mix up of flavors. I get a heavy sweetness from the malt with notes of brown sugar, sweet bread and molasses. This is cut with harsh orange rind/pith like bitterness and spice. The mouth feel is heavy, slick and cloying.

Notes: To me nothing is working well with each other and I ended up drain pouring the last half of this beer.

A: The beer is very hazy reddish brown in color. It poured with a quarter finger high dense tan head that died down, leaving lacy wisps of bubbles covering the surface and a collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Sweet aromas of toffee and caramel malts are present in the nose.
T: Like the smell, the taste has some malty flavors and flavors of toffee and caramel along with hints of nutmeg and raisins. There's only a slight amount of perceptible bitterness, although the hops obscure any cloying sweetness from the malts.
M: It feels a bit more than medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This is a nice holiday-themed brown ale and has a little extra body to get you through the winter months.
