Now this is what I call a stout boilermaker done right. A bottle of 2008 vintage sent to me courtesy of Jmagnus87. Sampled from a pint glass.
A: Darkness, completely void of light. No light penetrates the viscous beer. No lacing. No head. Just the briefest fizz when rousted to let you know it has some carbonation.
S: Smells of wet roasted barley malt, kentucky bourbon, caramel toffe and alcohol.
T: Wow. This is a beer that rivals The Underdark by Intuition Brewing, my favorite stout ever. Big roasted malts, coffee flavor and light lime citrus from the hops right before the bourbon flavors wash it all away on the back end. Absolutely delicious. Underdark only wins because I can get it very fresh and slightly more hoppy.
M: Wet, warming and chewy with a definite bourbon alcohol sting. Full bodied and practically nil carbonation.
O: Excellent. This would be my go-to stout if I lived in the upper midwest.

Pours thick like molasses and solid black in color. Head is thin tan and retains nicely.
Smell is incredible, some dark red fruity notes are forward before a nice bourbon and oak aroma cut through the fruity esters. Rich toffee malt with subtle aromas of toasted marshmallow and more fruity esters finish.
Taste follows the nose and is just as good. Dark fruity lightly sweet flavors are forward along with a light bourbon presence and a dry oak flavor. Rich toffee malt finishs along with some light toasted marshmallow flavors in the finish.
Mouthfeel is great. Thick body and mild carbonation keep this a perfect sipping beer. Hits all points, sweet sticky dry lightly bitter, anything you could ask for from a great stout
