Pours as dark as a politician's soul. A caramel colored head well over an inch develops from an aggressive pour. It dissipates evenly, leaving a light film behind and no lace.
Smell is rich and full with notes of dark fruits (figs, raisins), roasted malt, rum, oak. Phenomenal balance.
Taste is exactly the same, notes of roasted malt, dark fruit, rum and oak. Might be a touch of coffee, too.
Full bodied, rich, smooth, lightly effervescent. Somewhat cloying and sticky. After 30 minutes or so this brew really reaches its potential, just like any beer of this style benefits from some warmth. And it really goes well with a good piece of fruitcake.

July 2014. On Tap at Rattle n Hum. Better than a extra Birthday that doesn't shorten your life span. As a matter of fact this adds so much pleasure to the day, it's like doubling down on this particular 24 hours. At 15%...Hey, WTF...I'm on board.
02/21/12 From bottle. Rattle n Hum, NYC. If this was the only brew in the world I would not be unhappy. Been drinking it, whenever possible, for years & even with the switch to Budweiser It's still a superb brew.
