Pours dark brown, settles out deep black. 1/8" inch head on the pour, but bubbles down to nothing after only a minute or two.
Bourbon is immediately apparent, and it could be the only thing you smell if you allowed yourself. But giving it more time, I'm also picking up bits of dark chocolate, and some woodiness.
Huge depth of malts here - much like a world-class dark chocolate, it melts in your mouth. Woody vanilla from the bourbon brings the whole thing together, providing a bit of sweetness while also mellowing out the bourbon - very little heat here.
The carbonation lingers a bit, keeping the aforementioned flavors dancing on the tongue. It sits heavily on the edges of the tongue, providing a slick runway for this goose to land.
While I wouldn't recommend it in large quantities, it is pretty tasty as a sipper, and a warmer. So enjoyable.
Enjoying the third of four on May 22, 2012 - Zero head and the bourbon on the nose has mellowed some, leaving behind some booziness and still strong woodiness.
Still lots of bourbon in the mouth, but it seems to have picked up more of a char and bitterness to it. Like the crust on barbecue, or decadence of a super dark chocolate, even some dark juicy fruits.
I think this one could age for an eternity and continue to evolve.

July 2014. On Tap at Rattle n Hum. Better than a extra Birthday that doesn't shorten your life span. As a matter of fact this adds so much pleasure to the day, it's like doubling down on this particular 24 hours. At 15%...Hey, WTF...I'm on board.
02/21/12 From bottle. Rattle n Hum, NYC. If this was the only brew in the world I would not be unhappy. Been drinking it, whenever possible, for years & even with the switch to Budweiser It's still a superb brew.
