12oz bottle (2008 release) poured into a Bruery goblet. This has about a year of age on it.
A - Pours a thick and oily, deep and dark black - almost with a blue tint to it. No head at all...only a very thin tan ring of bubbles around the edge of the glass.
S - Thick and heavy smelling...creamy, vanilla, bourbon, molasses, milk chocolate. Really a lot going on here. Very good smelling barrel aged stout.
T - Very rich and multilayered. Lots of molasses up front. A fine, coffee-like bitterness fades into the flavor and stays way into the aftertaste. A creamy vanilla flavor fills in the middle section. Bourbon is there the whole time and really rounds out the flavors here. A bit of milk chocolate mixes in with the rest of the flavors. Wow! - Very impressed.
M - Full and thick. Syrupy, oily - seems to coat the entire mouth. Some alcohol heat felt in every breath. Carbonation is low contributing to the smoothness and syrupy feel.
D - What a difference a year makes...tried this when it was fresh last year and found it almost undrinkable from the bourbon heat. After a year of aging, the bourbon heat has mellowed considerably. This is a much more well rounded beer. This is really impressive...has to be one of the best impys out there. Don't think I could have more than one, but this is pretty smooth. Really enjoying this one. Now I know for sure - age my BCS at least a year.
