Pours a jet black-brown color. Has barely any head, and the one it does pour dissipates very quickly. Smells of deep cinnamon and oatmeal. There is a bourbon like scent going on, but that initial scent will split up into different flavors.
Initially, the flavor is very much that of whiskey. But once the initial "shock and awe" is done with this beer, it completely turns head and becomes something quite wonderful in complexity. It feels like a very grainy beer, at the same time it has the viscosity of paint thinner. This is quite the good beer, on par with such beers as Kentucky Breakfast Stout. I daresay, this may be better than previously said beer. This mellows when you drink it and although initially very shocking, turns into a real sweetie afterwards.
And if the price tag were not $22 for a four-pack, I would be much happier with it. An almost perfect beer.

July 2014. On Tap at Rattle n Hum. Better than a extra Birthday that doesn't shorten your life span. As a matter of fact this adds so much pleasure to the day, it's like doubling down on this particular 24 hours. At 15%...Hey, WTF...I'm on board.
02/21/12 From bottle. Rattle n Hum, NYC. If this was the only brew in the world I would not be unhappy. Been drinking it, whenever possible, for years & even with the switch to Budweiser It's still a superb brew.
