12 oz. 2013 bottle poured into a tulip glass.

A- “Blacker than the inside of a coffin on a moonless night.” The head was small and didn't stick around very long, but that is to be expected from a barrel aged imperial stout. The color of the head was possibly the darkest mocha brown head I've seen on any beer.

S- Right away I get a big, boozy whiff of charred bourbon barrel. Then some vanilla and roasty malts. Also, some chocolate and raisins. Very impressive.

T- The flavor mirrors the bouquet with some additional coffee notes. Bold, rich, complex and masterfully balanced without any flavor distracting or detracting.

M- Syrupy, full body with a great alcohol warmth and a port-like kick in the back of one's throat, while still managing to be chocolatey smooth on the way down.

O- Not let down at all by this extremely hyped beer. The brilliant thing about it is that there is such depth to be analyzed, yet you can just sit back and enjoy if you don't want to think too hard.

On draft at the bar, very fresh keg.

Ill be that guy and say that I am not a fan. The bourbon was overpowering in both the smell and the taste. The vanilla that was supposed to be in the smell was not present due to the overpowering scent of bourbon.

This left a huge bourbon taste on my tongue and did not allow me to taste any other flavors.

Color was perfect for a heavy stout, dark but not cloudy. Head remained for a little while, but ended as a small amount around the edges of the goblet the beer was served in.

I can see how this would be a good beer to barrel aged beer fans, but it is not for me.

A restauranteur friend of mine brought 4 bottles on a ski weekend. I am very familiar with Goose Islands other offerings, but not being a big dark fan I had not heard of this brew until now... WOW!!!
Not going to go through all the details but this is a beast of a beer. The aroma from the pour is over the top, bourbon, chocolate, coffee, vanilla and sweetness. You could shine a flashlight on the side of the glass and no light would come through... no really... I'm not sure if it is a black hole in a glass or what... Super thick rich syrupy sweet molasses flavor, with a serious boozy finish. Someone else commented it is like "pouring motor oil", it is thick, not that synthetic stuff.
Zero head, nothing, nada...
Just absolutely one of the most interesting beers I have had in a long time! Could not image having more than one in a sitting, it is a full meal in a glass.
If you like Bourbon, you need to meet this beer.
