This was hard to get, but totally worth it. Payed like 25 dlls here in Mexico. Pours deep black with a tan foam head. Aroma is great, bourbon, malts, chocolate, coffee, no hops. Taste is awesome, rich, complex, roasty, lots of bourbon and wood. Bold body, low carbonation. Excellent beer.

Look: Very dark, pours thick, not much light escapes this beer

Smell: bourbon, vanilla, carmel, coffee, chocolate

Taste: amazingly well balanced for such a bourbon forward beer. very smooth. hides the 13.7% better than any other I've tried. aftertaste very smooth

Feel: great sipper, nice thick mouth feel

Overall: doesn't get much better. i don't think a perfect score exists, just in principle, but this beer is as close as it gets. definitely worth seeking out and stocking up on

Look: Pours thick and dark. Some subtle microfizzys on top that appear to be doing their own unique cadence to edge of the glass from the center. Tilting the beer slightly 45 degrees and pulling it back to 90 degrees shows this beer is thick, making the palate water at the site of it.

Smell: A mature mix of vanilla, banana, bourbon, coffee, chocolate , burnt sugar and oak.

Taste: Follows the smell. A decadent delicious brew that is the best sipper I've had in a while. The alcohol is masked great . An explosion of all of the above smells hits the taste buds for a perfectly mixed brew.

Feel: Savory. I'm enjoying this like a fine wine more than a beer the way I'm sipping here. Very pleasant on the mouth.

Overall: I feel this is a near perfect beer.

Damn. I hate to roll with the hype but this beer exceeds it for me.

Beautiful deep black color with tiny red/brown head, little carbonation. Smells like chocolate and caramel around a campfire. Flavor is bourbon, maple, chocolate, coconut and and almonds. The beer glides over the tongue in an oil slick bliss.

Jesus Christ this beer is good.

I awoke early on Black Friday to get this beer, so it better be good. As usual, I drank too much on Thanksgiving, so rising early on Black Friday isn't at the top of my to do list...until this year.

Glass: tulip

Setting: cold winter night, back porch, toasty fire

Demeanor (mine): Ready, willing, able, but just a little intimidated. Are my expectations too high?

It's showtime. Finally.

The bottle is a work of art in and of itself. The first sign of the liquid brings pure joy. It's dark. Which reminds me of a line from Airplanes: "I like my beer the way I like my . . ." Oh wait, never mind. It's not only dark; it's also rich. Not much head, but what is there is darker than most beers! So high in alcohol content that is has legs like a good distilled spirit.

Smells and tastes of molasses, baked cherries, vanilla, raisins, figs, dates, plus a little smoke and a little oak. Other than that, pretty basic stuff.

Pours dark. Heavenly aroma- sorry I can't be more descriptive, but I was a few in. Surprisingly minimal heat. Slightly sweet (we did the 2014 and 2015 at a late 2015 tasting). Complexity certainly increased with age. Solid feel. One (two) of the more delicious darks I've ever had.

I get it. This is a very special beer but it's overrated for all the hype and stress it creates. Maybe I'll sell the bottle on ebay for the same price I bought it for.

Look: I gave it a heavy pour at around 65 degrees and got a tiny head that dissipated very quickly. Sign of a very high booze content.
Smell: Chocolate, Vanilla, Coffee, dark fruits. A little bit of heat from the booze.
Taste: Chocolate, vanilla, coffee, dark fruits.
Feel: Covers your entire mouth and leaves you with a nice burning thanks to the booze. Definitely a sipper.
Overall: I like bourbon and I like beer. I like this beer but I regret the things I had to do to get it... I will never be clean again... I've got another bottle in the cellar and I'll sit on it for year or two.

Classic stout. While there are better out there, this is a great go-to, when available! It does a great job defining what a stout can be. Slight hints of both chocolate and vanilla and plenty of bourbon. It's a very well-balanced, well-crafted beer when brewed on point.

Nice sweet bourbon w/ subtle dark fruit (chocolate covered cherry) in the entry. Big cooked caramel follows right behind. Smokiness and ash are prominent but not overpowering. Sweet bourbon is a nice firm component without taking over the whole beer. Caramel rolls in to nice chocolaty booze. The bourbon also gives off some nuanced maple tones. Nice, earthy soft bitterness in the finish. The carbonation combined with the hops gives the beer a minute bite. Cereal grains linger on the tongue after the hops and carbo die off. A super complex beer. First time having it. Very impressed. Probably one of the few AB InBev products I will consume. If you can get it, grab a bottle... or three.

For this beer (bottled 9/15, drank 1/16) the hops, carb, and booze are touch bitey/young. I can't wait to have this beer in another year!

Split this with my brother....

Man oh man. Aromas of bourbon and oak. Flavors of bourbon, brown sugar, stewed/dried plums, moist tobacco, cola, vanilla, toffee. It was thick and syrupy and quite possibly one of the best stouts I have ever had (definitely the best bourbon stout!).

In short...amazing!

Probably one of the best stouts (and beers) I've had, ever. Pours really nicely with a thin head that settles into some thin lacing. The aroma is just amazing. Rum raisin, chocolate, malt, brunt caramel, and dark fruits all come into mind. It doesn't smell "boozy" but you know when you smell it that there's alcohol in it. The taste and texture are sublime. Dark chocolate and fruit mix and mingle together very nicely on the palette and ends in a sweet then bitter note that makes for an all-over balanced tasting experience. The texture is thick, even for a stout and coats the tongue very nicely. High viscosity that remains through each sip. Ready to enjoy out of the bottle...but I will be cellaring the remaining bottles I have left.

2015 vintage. Poured from its new bottle into a tulip glass, and out comes a beer that resembles thick motor. A nice mocha, tan ring of bubbles lasts as I drink. The aroma is fantastic; bourbon, vanilla, oak, char, chocolate, maybe some maple, and some dark fruit.
Taste is incredibly decadent, and much of that comes from its velvety mouthfeel. The beer is excellent, bourbon, vanilla, it definitely has some sweetness. It's a little hot from the booze, but at 13.7%, not surprising. Warming on the way down.
This is a world class beer, and I can't wait to see how it ages over the next few years.

Dark black, almost no head (light pour).

Smells STRONGLY of bourbon, charred barrel, smoke.
Tastes like im sipping on chocolatey bourbon. Smooth, but a bit of alcohol as well.

I must have gotten a bad batch. I doubt they care or will do anything. Mine was infected, tasted sour and had a funk. I sadly paid 20 for this because it was hard to get in my area. Never again.

This "beer" is an experience. This is my first year having BCBS, and I'm into my second bottle. L: looks like you want to drink it. Opaque black, small tan head, slight oil on top once head fades. S: black cherry, oak, chocolate, booze, vanilla, sugar. T: sweet, dark liquid of the gods, leads to a strong cherry flavor, with dark malt chocolate backdrop, not upfront like many imp stouts. Boozy warmth leads to a vanilla, oak and crisp dry finish, possible hop bitterness here, and bitterness from roasted malt. Incredible balance of flavors comes as an amalgamation of the most decadent flavors in life. F: Surprisingly, this beer isn't "hot" for a 14%, is simply a pleasant boozy warm. Very light carbonation, as with many BA beers. Not chewy thick, yet not a thin feeling beer, very medium bodied, and drinkable as far as imperial stouts go. O: a memorable beer, truly decadent. This should send shivers down the spine of any beer/bourbon lover.

2013 bottle. Pours a deep dark brown/black...light tinge of amber around the edges. Light tan head which fades. Rich aroma of leather, sweet cherry, vanilla, cacao. Full smooth flavor, light bittersweet coffee at the end...delicious beer, quite well rounded. A tinge of hot alcohol, but not overwhelming. Awaiting tasting the newest batch!

Had on-tap at the 'Z' bar in State College, PA. Poured into a snifter.

L: Pours a thick dark brown... nearly black with 2 fingers of dense brownish head.

S: Complexity incarnate... oak and vanilla, bourbon and chocolate, booze... and possibly angel tears.

T/F: Taste follows smell remarkably well. Charred malts with dark fruits, chocolate, and vanilla. Bourbon and oak... boozy yet strikingly smooth and creamy. Warming and the flavor gets even more robust as it warms up to room temperature.

O: I know it's an Inbev product... but this is a spectacular beer. (and hey, they didn't louse it up!). A rare treat whenever you can find it on-tap and still one of the standard bearers for the style. Definitely one to enjoy whenever you can catch a glimpse.

Truly one of the best Imp Stouts out there. Best if aged for at least a year.

Pours pitch black with a thick opaque head. Smells of bourbon and roasty goodness. Tastes like bourbon, booze, coffee, chocolate. I prefer it to the coffee version.

Let me paint the picture. New Year's Eve... girlfriend runs into 7/11 for dip for her veggie plate. Hm. An innocuous liquor store next door, might as well pop in. Right as I walk into this not at all craft beer liquor store there is a open case of BCBS, heard it's pretty good, was $10 a bottle so I picked up 1 to drink and 1 to cellar.

Needless to say both were drank as I made everyone there try and everyone was as impressed as I was. I went back and got 4 to cellar...unless I feel like drinking heaven in a glass before then.

Outvof a 17 oz bottle. Heavenly beer! So well balanced, subtle burbon/ run flavor with a nice middle of vanilla and chocolale. By far one of the best beers I have had. Worthy of the search.

2015 vintage, 2 months from bottling

Apearance- Pours black color, opaque, silky and viscous in glass. Razor thin layer of cinnamon colored head. Alcohol legs coat glass with a thick layer of film.

Aroma- Chocolates, toffee candies, and caramel. Charred oak, roasted / burnt malts, smoky undertones. Toasty coconut and vanilla, oaky spice, almonds, and dark fruits. Intense sweet bourbon and boozy notes.

Taste- Milk chocolate sweetness, caramel, toffee, and creamy vanilla. Sweet bourbon, charred barrel, roasty malts, spicy oak, toasted coconut. Smooth sweet finish.

Feel- Full bodied, creamy, smooth, and silky. Coats the mouth, thick and oily. Lower carbonation.

Overall- Depth of flavors is what makes this beer one of the best in its style. Barrel characteristics are so strong and forward, but just compliment and don’t overpower the base beer flavors. Everything is in wonderful balance. So enjoyable to just sit and sip, let the flavors unfold, and reach for every little subtlety.

Description: Darth Vader dressed in a ninja suit dark black appearance. Looks silky as it pours and with absolutely no head. Smell is bourbon foremost (shocker) followed by wood/oak and some sort of a dark fruit (grape, raisin, maybe even a hint of raspberry) and a touch of vanilla. Taste is similar to the smell, as bourbon takes center stage with some dark fruit acidity behind it. It's a roasty flavor without any discernible sweetness aside from the bourbon. The finish leaves a noticeable smoky, woody flavor as it goes down. The feel is rich and velvety and this one coats the mouth without being syrupy.

Suggested food pairing: Bacon wrapped shrimp or a juicy beef brisket

If you like this beer then you should also try: Ten FIDY

Overall: 4.75 (This beer is excellent and I would definitely drink it again) This was my first foray into the Bourbon County lineup and it didn't disappoint. It wasn't quite as bourbony as I expected which I actually think was a good thing as it should some more flavor complexity and wasn't one-note. Hides the alcohol well for as high an ABV beer as this is. In short, a great beer that lived up to expectations. All the hubbub is justified and this is one to seek out.
