Pitch black and viscous as can be. Thin dark khaki head fades but leaves a ring that sticks around. Alcohol legs on the glass but not much stick. Big aromas of bourbon soaked dark cherry, coconut, caramel, toffee, coconut, wood, chocolate, vanilla and char. It all translates in the flavor and its immensely complex. Mouthfeel is full, sticky, coating yet not as thick as you'd expect. This is a great beer with huge complexity, but there is a local offering that does it a bit better. (490 characters)

Bottled 28 Aug 14 at 40.5 degrees into tulip. Some rust under cap.
Aroma of bourbon: some licorice aroma at 50 degrees
Head – none
Lacing – none
Body dark brown/black, opaque
Flavor very much of bourbon with vanillin present. Alcohol present. No hops, no diacetyl. Immediate stomach burn.
Palate full, oily, flat

Appearance 3.5, Aroma 3.75, Flavor at almost one year: 4, Palate 3.5, Overall 3.75. Allowed to warm to 50 degrees, alcohol flavor is less harsh. Other than that, no appreciable change. (509 characters)

Too boozy for me. I enjoy many other barrel aged stouts, this one is too boozy. It also has a black licorice smell to it that doesn't appeal to me. I can appreciate others enjoy this beer, it's just too much for me. Maybe age will help it out for me. I have three others in my cellar, so I will test out that theory. (321 characters)

We did a comparison tasting with a 2009 vs 2013. The difference between the two was amazing. The extra four years blended the flavors and took the edge off just enough to make a perfect beer even more perfecter. If you get a chance, tuck a bottle of this away for a few years and compare. You'll be glad you did. (316 characters)

Last tasted a 2013 in a bourbon taster glass. They hype is real on this beer and has been for a very long time. One of the best if not the best BA stouts out there. This beer embodies perfection in every aspect that a review really can't do this beer justice. Its look, smell, taste, and finish is out of this world. That is why BCBS is on the top of many top beer lists. You simply have to try it if you haven't already and do yourself a favor... get your hands on all the previous years too. (493 characters)

L: No head, no carbonation, just pitch black and looks like oil
S: They don't call it bourbon county for nothing. Huge bourbon and chocolate.
T: Big sweet bourbon without the heat, chocolate and a hint of the barrel notes.
F: This completely coats my mouth, and the flavor last far beyond the drink. It's very thick and smooth.
O: Clean sweep of 5's, it's special occasion beer. An absolute treat! (403 characters)

When consumed right away there is a strong bourbon presence to the beer. The aroma is boozey chocolate and oak from the barrels. The body is thick but velvet smooth on the tongue and in the mouth. The flavor is richness; chocolate caramel and vanilla followed by a wonderful bourbon heat that just warms the throat and stomach. This is a fireside beer winter warmer and it is delicious. (386 characters)

What a religious experience...
The 100 by BA is not a fluke.
This is the real deal. There are so many notes its like drinking a symphony.
If you manage to find it it, drink it. (176 characters)

Goose Island Bourbon County Stout has a thin, tan head, a very dark brown, almost black, appearance, and essentially no lacing left on the glass. The aroma is as expected- a strong, overriding, vanilla/oak/Bourbon whiskey smell, with background malt. Taste is of the same, with lots of sugar, some char, dark, slightly-turned dark fruits, like prunes, and balancing bitterness. Mouthfeel is heavy and velvety, and Goose Island Bourbon County Stout finishes rich and boozy.

I love the bourbon county brand series. The start of it right here. I tried the 2015 version. Amazing oak aromas. Great carbonation from the bottle creating an off white head. Better than the coffee version to me. Not as difficult to find as well. Great bourbon notes from the aging. Definitely worth a try. In my top 20 for sure. (330 characters)

Poured hard into a snifter, leaving about three fingers worth of head. Appearance is black as night without any light coming through the edges. Smell and taste are heat/booze, bourbon, vanilla, dark chocolate, and some coffee notes in there as well. Very thick and lush mouth feel. A tried-and-true example of this style. (321 characters)

A solid Imperial Stout from Goose Island. I had this as part of a Goose Island flight sampler. Dark and boozy goodness in a glass. Top notch in my book. (155 characters)

as far as Bourbon aged stouts go, this is the king. outrageously complex beer that gets better the further down the bottle you go. Also still manages to improve with aging. simply put, this beer is a benchmark. (210 characters)

Super complex. Tastes completely different depending upon whether your drinking it cold or room temperature. Raisins, bourbon and a rich malty sweetness add to the mystery tastes behind BCBS. (191 characters)

2014 version, bottled on 9/16/14, 14.4% ABV. Pours opaque black with a small light brown head. Smells like rich cocoa and bourbon. The taste follows very closely, but starts with cocoa, some vanilla and molasses, then ends with oak and bourbon... amazing. Thick and luscious mouth feel, lower carbonation. Good alcohol warming. Like a bourbon chocolate dessert.

2013 version, bottled on 8/29/13, 14.9% ABV. This bottle was notably sweeter than the 2014, but still had all the amazing bourbon cocoa flavors. (512 characters)

On tap at The Engine Room in Mystic. The only thing not awesome is the head which is great but a tad less than perfect. I highly recommend the only stouts of the same caliber are Dragon's Milk and my all time favorite Ten Fidy. (228 characters)

Alright, so this one does live up to the hype. Got lucky and got to taste this at a smaller beer fest. Bottle listed the ABV at 14.4 and it smelled like it. But it did not taste like a super heavy stout. Still very robust with coffee, chocolate, dried fruits, and bourbon or course. Damn good stout. (299 characters)

Pours a thick looking jet black color. I couldn't get any head or lacing out of it. (Maybe a sloppy pour?)
Intense coffee, chocolate and alcohol aroma. Medicinal too. You can get high from whiffing on this one too much.
Ultra sweet taste that combines roasted malts, dark fruits, chocolate. Some balance provided by the hops. The alcohol flavor is there particularly in the after taste. You can taste the barrel wood. It warms you up like a dessert liqueur, bourbon or cognac.
Supremely thick, full bodied and viscous feel. This is certainly a sipper.
This one is not for the faint of heart and certainly not to be drunk when you want something light and crispy to cool off. It is a beer that feels more like a hard liquor. Warning: the high ABV gives you quite a buzz. Do not operate heavy machinery during or after drinking. (827 characters)

Had on tap at the Pig & Fiddle
L: Brilliant black under a 1” dark tan finely bubbled foam collar.
S: Bourbon, coffee, chocolate, vanilla
T: Big dreamy chocolaty, coffee, bourbon flavors.
F: A very smooth creamy palate that almost has a nitro beer texture without the reduction in flavor.
O: One of the better things done to a bourbon barrel in a long time – all of the flavors are big, but well balanced – nothing is harsh or out off place. (450 characters)

I know everyone else in beerdom loves this brew but...yeesh...it was a conscious task to finish one bottle and not pour it out. Not one for me, at least not yet. (161 characters)

Look: Pours a very thick pitch black out of a 12oz'er. You're not going to see the light of day through this one! About a 2 finger head that dissipated fairly quickly with not much lacing left behind.

Smell: Instantly greeted with alcohol and rich Bourbon, although not overpowering for this high of an ABV brew. Full wafts of chocolate and vanilla. There are also hints of caramel and smoky greatness.

Taste: An instant fruity bite quickly followed by a shot of bourbon. The whiskey fades and I was then left with coffee, caramel, molasses, and chocolate swirling flavors with a hint of cherry.

Feel: Mouth-feel is a very full bodied / thick and oily feeling that coats the tongue.

Overall: An amazing beer that I highly recommend. Probably one of the best (if not the best) barrel aged beers I have had (or just beer in general). Very high ABV (13.8%) but not too overpowering. Thick, rich, and full of flavor. Very impressed with this one. (962 characters)

Got in the mail here in Miami Beach from my buddy back in Chicago. Thanks Timbo! The whole shipment didnt survive but thankfully this crown jewel was sittin pretty.

Nose - carmel, toffee, coffee, chocolate, a little bourbon. Delicious, like what I want for breakfast in retirement.

First sip - wow...this is what artisan and craft is all about. Delicate mouth feel, elegant. It dances .It is like a bananas foster, sweet delicious and a touch of booze. Goes down like the first milkshake of summer. Fine swiss dark chocolate.

This is a beer to finish off a fine dining meal. I want to drop a scoop of vanilla in it and make a float.

Delicious. Really in a class of its own. I do somewhat desire a little bit more of a carbonation bite, but even my burps are amazing. (774 characters)

Pours a dark brown color with an off white tan head. A few spots of lace are left behind. This beer has a sticky feel on the glass, some might say it has legs.

Powerful bourbon aroma with charcoal elements usually found in Russian Imperial Stouts. Bourbon, slightly oxidized malt showing off nutty and chocolate hints. A bit of oak but mainly bourbon. Strong but well rounded with roast and sweetness.

Full bodied, thick feel that really sends the bourbon love to the dome.

Overall, this is a bourbon barrel aged stout that hits you over the head with strong bourbon and barrel flavors. I understand why there is such a frenzy over this beer. This worthy of being a regarded beer and a fine specimen of the barrel aged stout style. (743 characters)

This is the BA stout that I compare all other stouts too. Super thick, lots of depth to the flavor and a richness that I have yet to really find in another BA stout. Add to the fact that it is not incredibly difficult to find at the right time of year and it definitely is one of my favorites. (293 characters)

Got a 12 ounce bottle in a 6 pack mixer from a friend back in 2011. Those were the days. Pours pitch black with a strong bourbon smell. Tastes just like it smells. Best tasting stout I've had so far. My brother hated it, but he likes Mich Ultra. (250 characters)
