2013 Vintage

Appearance: Virtually black with a modest dark beige head that faded to a ring. Nice looker.

Smell: Bourbon, brown sugar and some mild oak notes.

Taste: Bourbon, brown sugar, mild roasted malt notes, mild vanilla, and some mild oak notes. The beer finishes with Bourbon notes, roast malts notes and mild tannic oak notes. Very good tasting beer.

Mouth-feel: Full- bodied with a modest level of carbonation.

Overall: Back story; back in 2008 I had a 22 0z Bourbon County Stout in my hand at a store that I put back on the shelf because I thought $14 was kind of a high price to pay. Shit, craft beer has definitely changed from those days and I longed to have access in So Cal to Bourbon County once again. This was the year and the beer did not disappoint. Today's price is almost that for a 12 ozer but damn this is a good beer. Here's to hoping the pipeline to So Cal opens up even more so I can have continued access to this gem.

Lot of hype surrounding this beer. Took a little to obtain this. Got a chance to try it a week after I bought it. It was everything it was cracked up to be. Poured black as night into a tulip glass. Overwhelmingly power smell of alcohol specifically bourbon eminating from the glass. Slight brown head. Small amount of carbonation at the top stops fairly short after the pour. Not many bubbles lasting the entire two hour journey. Very powerful on the tastebuds. Robust malt flavor, with hints of chocolate. It's almost like drinking a hard alcohol beverage. Leaves legs on the glass as if it were a Cabernet from Napa Valley. I recommend to all and would say yes, it's worth the $9 a bottle, but next year if it crept up to $10 a bottle I'd opt for something else.

Served on tap at Victoire bar in Rochester NY into a belgian glass.

Appearance- Jet black with a small light brown/tan head that stuck around for a bit.

Smell- Bourbon is dominant, but also coffee and chocolate present. Bourbon is definitely the strongest smell though.

Taste- The bourbon is not as overpowering as the smell would let on, but still very present. Also blended in are hints of coffee, chocolate, vanilla, and sweet fruitiness. The alcohol is well covered, and just adds sweetness.

Mouthfeel- Thick. Very thick, just as an imperial stout should be.

Overall- Definitely my favourite stout, and may be one of my favourite beers to date. Definitely a sipper though, as it is a heavy beer.

A-Poured into a 12 ounce New Belgium globe glass-pitch black with a mocha head that dissipated quickly and left a thing ring of foam throughout. It didn't leave any lacing but there was some minor cascading.

S-Bourbon overwhelmed the nose with hints of coconut, vanilla, alcohol, and dark fruits. The only reason I couldn't give a 5 for the nose was due to the overwhelming presence of the bourbon as it overshadowed everything else making it nearly one dimensional.

T-Bourbon, but much more tame than the nose suggested, dark fruits, with hints of coconut, vanilla, fudge, and alcohol. I expected a complete bourbon bomb from the nose but to my surprise this was a very complex and extremely flavorful beer. It is sweet from the alcohol and there is not much roast at all, which I thoroughly enjoyed because I like a more dark fruit forward imperial stout. The beer coats your mouth and begs for you to take another sip, its wonderful. One of the best tasting beers I've ever drank-it is simply amazing.

M-Perfect mouthfeel-its creamy and thick. I don't think it could be any better.

D-This is a true sipper due to the high alcohol content and complexity. I only drank one I don't think I could have handled another but it was an amazing experience.

Overall, this might be the best beer I've yet to try. Next year I hope to purchase some in bottle form as it is truly a great beer.

2013 vintage at just below room temp poured into a snifter. Have had solo and side by side with 2012 Rain, 2013 Black tuesday and the consensus was: Rain, BCBS, Tuesday

Overall the BCBS is just put together so nicely with a nice upfront bourbon heavy smell/taste but it has decent depth too with an amazing silky smoothness. Easily one of my favorites

Feel is Super smooth and silky.
Smell: boozy bourbon, chocolate/brewed cofee
Taste bourbon without the burn and a chocolatey malt backrdrop
