Live review.

Poured from 12oz bottle into my Old Rasputin nonic pint glass.

A: Pours a brilliant golden yellow which is slightly hazy, nice, 3 finger white head takes several minutes to settle into a small cap, leaves nice lacing at each sip. Nice looking beer.

S: Man, this is nice. The Citra and Saaz fight for the lead. Spicy hop and citrusy hop battle it out in front of a light malt sweetness and a clove-y, powdery Belgian yeast. Faint (and I do mean faint) whiffs of alcohol. Not bad at all.

T: This is damned solid. Sweet, fruity yeast character, a little bit of a spicy hop. Some of that clove-y character from the yeast as well, which I don't care for much, but it doesn't detract from the beer. ABV is very, very well hidden. Only a slight warming on the swallow.

M: Slick, somewhat on the thin side, medium carbonation. Finishes long and sweet.

O: Pretty damned solid. I think the addition of Citra as an aroma component is a good choice, but if they used them late on for flavor additions, I'm not getting them. Still, this is easily one of the better American attempts at a Belgian style that I've had to date, and to be fair, one of the better tripels I've had in a while. Easily recommended.

Brewed in the style of a Belgian Tripel with Brewers Gold, Citra and Saaz hops. Available in 12 oz. 4 packs and on draft. Poured from a 12 oz. bottle to a tulip glass. Served above 51º Fahrenheit.

This beer pours a frothy cream head of a golden white complexion over a very hazy golden amber body with light streams of relaxed carbonation. Retention is very good, lacing is moderate and streaked. Aroma showcases typical elements of the Belgian Tripel, with a peppery spiciness, biscuity, fluffy malt and a slightly fruity, effervescent yeast strain, but the unique spin on this beer is the pronounced hop profile reminiscent of an American IPA with notes of grapefruit, lemongrass and mild tropical fruit. The flavor further develops the Tripel notes, with a solid malt body of biscuit, pale wheat and a pinch of grain meeting the milder peppery, tropical fruit hop profile and finishing with a wash of white pepper, coriander and mellow spicy esters. Despite an aim of balance and an appropriate bitterness, the hop flavor profile doesn't match the bravado of the Tripel body, to my disappointment. The texture is slightly chewy, a touch resinous and spicy with a fevered carbonation forming an assertive mouthfeel. The alcohol presence is modest but discernible as notably common by the style guidelines, however I did not notice any quality issues or unordinary imperfections. It is still very drinkable for a Belgian Tripel. Overall, The Ogden goes a step farther than a Belgian IPA into something a bit more traditional and no doubt higher gravity. Most seasoned palates will notice a pleasing increase in flavor and subtleties, although the hops play a smaller role than I had hoped, and the Triple notes steal the show. Altogether it was enjoyable but a note shy of exceptional. 3.75

Pours into a large tulip glass a hazed honey tinged golden with a nice blooming head that leaves some broken chunks behind as it settles very slowly.Alot overripe tropical fruitiness in the nose along with some subtle phenol yeasty spice,some light leafiness is detected as well.Spiced phenols upfront on the palate along the tropical fruits but more subtle than in the aromas,not overly sweet but to me it's pretty sweet for the style,there is a decent drying leafiness in the finish.Just a little sharp in the mouth but not anything overly annoying.Not bad,I like the tropical fruit element,it's close to being great,as is it's pretty good.

Not a fresh bottle, as this was bottled back in march of 2014....oh well.

Pours hazed tangerine, with a nice looking off white tiny bubble head, film and raised collar, leaves some slippery fine sheeting.

Fruity nose with melon and lime.

Soft and near creamy on the tongue, this is highly fruit infused brew with more melon, lime and other tropical sensations. Tasty and yes fresh tasting. Less carbonated then the typical Tripel.

Yeast fueled nutty final pour. Yum yum yum

Great with some nuts, dried fruits, bread and cheeses

Serving glass: Poured from bottle into Tulip.

Appearance: Honey colored with decent white head that dissipates.

Smell: Definite Citra aroma, some fleshy fruit and banana.

Taste: Fresh baked bread, banana, various fleshy and tropical fruits. Some pepper and spice toward the end. The Citra and Saaz hops linger after the finish. Not bitter; just balanced.

Feel: Moderate carbonation, medium body that is fairly creamy, mostly dry finish.

Overall: Interesting take on a Tripel. The Citra hops really work surprisingly well to counter and augment the standard Belgian flavors. Overall, it is subtle, balanced, unique and delicious.

Have had quite a few of these. Mostly because got a good deal on some older ones but at 9% not worried about having some age on it. A lot of white sediment in this light golden brew with a thin finger of quickly dissipating white foam. Yeasty sweet in the nose with just a hint of distinct citra. Taste has plenty of alcohol go with a nice malt taste and some yeasty orange like sweetness with a kiss of citra. Unfortunately the booziness and sticky aftertaste ruins this one for me. Has some good qualities but it's not much else than a quick buzz.

Rich golden colored with some minuscule sediment suspended within the body. Head is minimal and covers the majority of the top of the beer. Light Brussels lacing. The aroma is blend of fresh citrus hops and light Belgian candy sugar. The flavor is dominated by the citrus hops. I do also get the light malt and gentle sweetness of Belgian candy sugar,but it is buried. I do get the dryness and high carbonation typical of the style. It's a good beer,but it's an aggressively dry hopped Belgian ale.

Fruity nose – not big. Pours brilliant gold under a 1” foam cap that perches up over the rim. Has a citrusy, orange, grape melon palate lightly sweetened by caramel with a hint of bubble gum. Medium body and carbonation.

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a Duvel tulip glass. Bottled on April 11th, 2014.

Appearance: Pours a bright and fairly hazy golden orange with a moderate amount of bubbles. One finger of white head that slowly recedes into a thin patchy layer. Leaves a solid amount of lacing.

Smell: A yeasty, fruity, and spicy Belgian style aroma with good hints of citrus fruit. Upfront Belgian yeast with hints of clove, peppers, funk, and coriander. Fruit hints of banana, apple, and pear. Big citrus hop presence with hints of orange, grapefruit, mango, lemon, and tangerine. Earthy hop hints of grass. Pale malt with hints of grains, straw, and cracker. Sweet scent of candied sugar. A nicely juicy aroma that reminds me of a Belgian IPA.

Taste: Like it smells, a yeasty, juicy, and spicy Belgian IPA like taste with big notes of citrus fruit. Belgian yeast with some notes of peppers, clove, coriander, and funk. Fruity notes of banana, green apple, and pear. Big citrus hop presence with notes of orange, grapefruit, lemon, mango, and tangerine. Some earthy and floral hops as well with some grass. Soft pale malt with notes of straw, grains, and cracker. Sweet taste of candied sugar as well as some bubblegum notes. A pretty solid hopped up Belgian taste.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with a medium to high level of carbonation. Juicy, spicy, and somewhat prickly. Fairly drying finish. A little booze heat comes through.

Overall: A pretty solid twist on a Belgian style ale. Good citrus hop presence with the yeast and spices. Very much like an imperial Belgian IPA.

This beer is a very pale yellow, crystal clear and brightly shining even in low light. A clean, bone white head is fluffy and creamy, residing on top of the brew at a stiff finger's height and remaining there for a good while, only dropping very slowly while leaving some creamy lace in plenty as it goes.
Interestingly, the first impression on every sniff of this beer is pure tangerines. Underneath that is some spiciness, earth, grass and heat. A little white flesh and citrus peel are underneath, and there's a very light bitterness to it overall.
The taste is, for the most part, pure heat. Some other notes are detectable, of course, but the heat overwhelms quite a lot. Yeast contributes some lighter earth, must and a bubblegum-like sweetness that's infused throughout. Some pear and banana flesh can be found under the alcohol as well. There's a separate spiciness like Noble hops that accompany a light leaf that can just be caught. Really, though, I find it difficult to believe people who say they can taste everything without any trouble under the raw heat. It bites the tongue to the back of the throat almost like hot peppers, but without the lasting burn and, fortunately, short on isopropyl or ethanol notes to it.
This light-bodied brew is soft but deep, fluffy with a strong carbonation and a nice smoothness to the flow. It gets a little dry into the finish but has plenty of sweetness carrying through.

Poured from the 12 ounce bottle into a snifter.

Bright golden liquid with a cloudy quality and an exceptionally persistent, finger thick head. The head is pale white and leaves lace streaking up all sides of the glass.

Smells similar to a few saisons I've had lately with an aroma that resembles lilies. It's also lemony and has a thick malt or wheat aroma. I'd say that it's a good mix of lemon and malt and some yeastiness and spice.

Big on the malt, floral (lily-like) flavor and yeastiness with a subtle citrus flavor at the finish. A good does of grapefruit peel lingers on the tongue towards the finish and makes a good impact. The beer has a good amount of sweet malt flavor that does a good job of balancing the agressive, bitter grapefruit finish.

Another Goose Island Goody. I have nothing but love for this beer. Tasty and not a bad price at around $12 a 4-pack.

Pours an effervescent peach with 2+ fingers of eggshell colored head. Stellar lacing & pretty good head retention

S: Green appleskin, pears & a little pineapple

T: Green appleskins & pears & a little dirt & pineapple up front. Honey crisp apples, boozey pineapple & a touch of green banana as this warms & a little grassiness & a little grapefruit rind. Finishes with pineapple & limeyness, some dirty/phenolic notes

MF: Medium bodied, firm carbonation

Pretty good, really starts to open as this warms, drinks easy. Goose Island seems keep cranking out good stuff despite their deal with satan...

Pours a light golden straw color with a short dense white head that settled into a light ring.

The aroma is of the Belgian yeast. Light clove, bubblegum, juicyfruit and farmhouse funk. Spot on Belgian notes. A grassy bitterness in the finish.

The taste is a big yeasty blast. Nice clove and bubblegum. A bit of farmhouse. A dry pils malt provides the base for the beer. Some grassy hop bitterness in the finish. A bit sugary sweet but other than that hits the authentic style notes.

The feel is light and crisp. Sharp carbonation. Lightly sweet on the palate with a drying malt and grassy hop. Great balance. ABV well hidden.

Nicely made BPA from Goose. Authentic Belgian notes with an American hoppy twist. Very solid.

A: Pours an attractive light golden yellow with a very small off white head.

S: Lemon, grapefruit, and Belgian yeast. Some faint earthy funk.

T: A mix of citrus notes mixed with the bitterness from the hops. A little sweetness that reminds me a bit of banana and baked bread. When it was colder, there was almost a little sour and saltiness that seemed to dissipate as it warmed. As it was closer to room temperature, a bit of spices coming through.

M: Medium bodied with a steady stream of small bubbles that lasted for several minutes.

O: An interesting Tripel. Maybe not my favorite of the bunch, but easy drinking and refreshing.

Pours pale golden colored, little haze, touch of white foam on top. Sweet candi sugar nose, light yeast strain. Lighter taste, sneaky hop, touch of citrus. Fruity. A little spicy too. Full flavored, nice blend. Well made.

A very nice Belgian triple ale from Goose Island. Pours a clear golden with light white head and light white lacing. Nose of banana, clove, citrus, Belgian candy, fresh bread, light hops, and alcohol on the nose. Taste is delightful, nice Belgian candy up front, banana and citrus fruits on the back, some lemon grass herbal notes, and a light hop and clove flavor on the aftertaste. Nice mouthfeel, well carbonated and sumptuous. A hair overboard on the hop and clove for the style, but still nice without being a Belgian ipa in style.

12 oz. bottle poured into a Burley Oak snifter (bottled on: 4/7/14 0957)

A: Very clear, straw-colored with a tinge of copper to it. The slightest film of bubbles and the smallest collar.

S: Dry, clean smell of freshly cut grass. The characteristic strong Belgian notes, such as the sweetness, fruity esters and malts are quite subtle here and you really have to be looking for them.

T: Super clean here as well, just like the smell. Such a restrained interpretation of this style, that seemingly elevates it. Nice bit of spice from the hops, that aren't very forthcoming in the flavor profile here, but they are noticeable in the slight bitter twang of an aftertaste that lingers. I wouldn't say this is bold, but it is definitely complex. A lot of this seems like it is probably from the "unique Belgian yeast". Actually, going back to it, I get some of the tropical notes they mention.

M: Nice even level of carbonation that is quite smooth, with a nice brush of bubbles.

O: This is an excellent beer and kind of makes me wish I had gotten the whole 4-pack. Not sure how this would age, since everything is so subtle. It makes me wonder if the malts would come out more. They are killing it with these special one-off 4-pack releases. Great stuff!

Golden pale yellow pour with little to no white fizzy head. Busy carbonation. Could be a chill haze but a slight haze there is.

Aroma of toasted pale malts, toasted biscuit malts, Belgian yeast, a slight lemon zing, but there is this rather difficult to define melon-like note as well.

The body is heavy with yeast but light in mouthfeel.

The taste has many of the classic Triple champagne-like elements of toasted biscuit malts, yeast, a little hop bite, and this melon thing flows into the picture too. But I still enjoyed it.

Pours a clear golden color with a tight, white head that leaves chunks of lacing.

Smells of grainy malts and a little citrus.

Tastes of the pale malt character with some American hop notes. Pale malts lead off with grainy sweetness and some bread along with a bit of syrup. Hops come through next and add some bitterness along with notes of grapefruit and a touch of tropical fruits. Some earthy spice notes come on the end. Finishes fairly hot.

Mouthfeel is medium with slightly crisp amount of carbonation.

Overall, this is pretty good, but I don't quite like the graininess.

A- clear pale yellow color with a 2 finger head that is frothy and foamy. spiderweb lacin gon my pint as well.

S- lemongrass with peppery spice. some citrus notes come through as well and the malts are hidden but there.

F- pepper spice with that lemongrass flavor. some earthy grass tones as well.

M- carbonated and medium bodied. the spices linger in the mouth fairly long as well.

O- not a bad Belgian and above average. I would have another.

Actually, a very nice Tripel. Using Westmalle as a baseline as my favorite tripel, I was pleasantly surprised. Belgian styles offer such a surprises (both good and bad). This one was pretty straightforward - not too many wild yeasts. Looked gorgeous when poured, nice maltiness scent, with some mild bitterness and slightly sweet flavors from the esters, distinct crisp carbonation and not too much of an alcohol burn - I probably like my tripels slightly colder to ease the alcoholic burn at the sake of appreciating some of the more subtle flavors. Good one!

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a standard pint, but that's what was available. Moderately aggressive hand. Dated 07Apr14.

A: 4.0 Cloudy, golden yellow body. 1 finger or so of fairly clean, white head. Ok retention. Minimal lacing.

S: 4.0 Musty yeast with earth notes. Citrus-forward, floral hops. Lemon. Orange blossom. Apricot. Candi sugar. Grass. Honey.

T: 4.0 Hop bitterness kicks things off, but a yeasty, tropical fruit sweetness builds quickly. Vanilla. Occasional hint of cherry in addition to the fruit noted in the nose. The yeast and pale malt fade away to a mostly dry, hop-fueled finish. Alcohol is present, but light for 9% ABV. Lingering citrus fruit and hops in the aftertaste.

M: 4.0 Moderate carbonation, relatively low for a triple, but smooth and accompanied by a medium body. Not a typical tripel feel. More like an IPA. Solid feel.

O: 4.0 Nice well-rounded, well-constructed brew. Over-hopped tripel vs Belgian-mellowed IPA. Straddles a few genres. I can attest that this drinks well in warmer weather, but I suspect it would also be nice in the colder months.

Poured from the bottle into a nonic pint glass, just as instructed, no tulip for our hero! Tripel be damned, you shall be slayed again!

Now why for you go do this. In a nonic you have a classic apricot light orange and yellow body, somewhat hazy, and minimal carbonation. A creamy to fluffy bright white head with three fingers easily tops it. Looks ok, but would look better in a tulip, come on...

Mild sense of tropical and American style hops. A little bit of spice. Not much sense of classic tripel yeast fruit esters, or even Belgian sucrose candied action and malts. A bit of sticky yeast sourness as well.

First sip on the palate brings some juicy character. A bit tropical and good thick malt bodied but comes off with little Belgian character. Not much creamy, or malt distinction, it seems a little focused more so on the hop angle.

Tastes like a tripel with American style hops, and doesn't really feel that much Belgian. It's not what I look for in this style but it's a decent brew. The experiment just doesn't really work for me.
