Pours deep golden with a thin lasting white head. Trailing lace sticks.

The smell is of lightly toasted wheat bread with a hint of caramel. There is a hint of something floral/citric. A vague hint.

The taste is of caramelized wheat bread. There are some bittering hops in the finish that don't add flavor. Just some bitterness. There is also a touch of soap. The taste isn't "bad", but it doesn't reach "good". It has a bland finish.

For a bland interpretation of the style, it's drinkable. I didn't appreciate the soap touch, which I think, after having a second, is from a general blandness more than a defect, maybe. Anyway, it is drinkable. It does have some balance to it. It starts off sweet-ish, lands bitter-ish, but doesn't really come together. Okay, I've gone back and forth on the overall long enough to say it hits 3.5 overall. But, I'm really trying to be supportive and this beer is making me work at it. I'll give it the "benefit of the doubt".

Presentation: It was poured from a brown 12 oz bottle into a tulip glass. The label lists the abv at 5.4% and there is a bottled on date.

Appearance: The body has a golden amber color with good clarity and just a few bubbles of carbonation. The pour produced a tall thick head, white In color and fairly long lasting. As it slowly settles it makes lots of cool lacing on the glass.

Smell: There is a nice sweet aroma coming from the glass. I get a nice balance of bready and biscuity malt with some light citrusy hops. I also get very light fruity notes of apple and dried apricots.

Taste / Palate: It has a nice medium bodied base of wheat like breakfast cereal, pale bready and biscuity malt with fruity dried apricot like notes mixing in. The feel is smooth and the carbonation is almost creamy. It finishes with a light balance of citrus hop bitterness.

Notes: I like this Pale Ale for it light hop balance and harmony of flavors. I don’t expect Pale Ales to be IPA want to be hop bombs. I could drink quite a few of these.

Probably my least favorite pale ale ever. Very little hop character and just a lot of crystal malt. As the beer warms it begins to get more and more like vomit.

poured into a tulip glass from a 355mL bottle.'
Bottle Date: July 01, 2014
Pour Date: August 18, 2014

APPEARANCE: Dirty golden hue, high clarity, with a 1.5 inch white head. Head reduced to just the edges after 2 minutes, but has good retention on the walls of the glass.

SMELL: New baseball glove and a bowl of corn flakes

TASTE: Underlying taste really matches the scent - earthy and sweet. The hop flavours are married well: dry hops give a bright upfront sensation without overpowering, while the bittering hops aren't too noticeable, meaning they're doing their job. Aftertaste is sweet on the back of the tongue. Overall this is a malt-shifted pale.

FEEL: A bit sticky, almost creamy.

BURP: boring

Poured from a bottle into a pint glass.

Appearance: Golden, with a thin white head that lingered. A lot of carbonation and no lacing on the glass.

Smell: Strong hops with some citrus and pine notes.

Mouthfeel/Taste: Smooth medium bodied. Taste of bitter hops and pine nots with faint citrus in the background.

Overall: Not a bad beer. Glad I tried it out.

What the fudge, Goose Island... Clear orange pour, smells of sweet boiled malts, tastes as the worst pale ale I have ever tried: boiled corn, caramel sweetness and... that's about it. No hop profile, no bitterness, no flavour of any kind except the sweetness.

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a tall pint glass. Bottled on Feb 25, 2014.

Appearance: Pours a bright golden orange with a moderate amount of bubbles. Huge three finger white head with decent retention. Leaves a lot of lacing.

Smell: A crisp and earthy balanced pale ale aroma with hints of grass, citrus, and caramel malt. Earthy and herbal hops with hints of damp grass and slight pine. Citrus hints of orange, grapefruit, lemon, and pineapple. Bready malt presence with hints of caramel, grains, biscuit, cracker, and yeast. A pretty decent and balanced aroma.

Taste: Like it smells, a crisp, clean, and earthy balanced mix of earthy hops and malt. Earthy, floral, and herbal hops with some hints of grass and slight pine resin. Citrus hop notes of orange peel, lemon, grapefruit, and pineapple. Bready malt balance with notes of grains, caramel, biscuit, cracker, and yeast. A fairly subdued but decent taste.

Mouthfeel: Light to medium bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation. Crisp, clean, and pretty smooth.

Overall: A subdued but decent light brew. Kind of more like a English Bitter than APA.
