It's red, a clear beautiful red with a lingering thin off-white head. Poured perfectly into my Left Hand Big Mo' Glass.

Smells like a med/low alcohol barley wine with giant caramel, bread and some earth oaked with cherries and a little biscuit, sugary sweetness mixed with a bit of spice, and lightly herbal hops come up in the background.

Taste is good but doesn't carry through on the promise that the aroma holds forth. Still a great beer, but anticlimactic. Would have been better off just drinking it rather than analyzing so much. Where is the balance when we so enjoy dissection? oh well, I'll drink and enjoy, but I'm glad I didn't smuggle too much of this home.

Overall, medium bodied. Some great stuff going on, just not quite enough taste or richness to match the aroma. I stick by my previous statement though, it's great, just not as great as the aroma portends. I'm still enjoying it a lot now that I've gotten used to the anticlimax. You should buy it and decide for yourself.

A: This poured a nearly opaque light mahogany with a little light tan head.
S: It smelled like nutty toffee and earthy copper, with some spicy Belgian yeast and honey wheat bread.
T: It tasted like nutty toffee and honey wheat bread, with some spicy Belgian yeast and earthy copper. It had a clean earthy aftertaste with a little alcohol warming.
M: It was oily with moderate carbonation. Decent body.
D: This was a nice BSDA, with enjoyable scent and taste and decent body. The finish was smooth, although it was a bit hot, so it was easier to sip. Nothing amazing about this beer, but a fairly solid brew. Age would likely really help.

May 2013 bottle poured into a tulip.

It has a reddish-brown iced tea color with a two finger white head that settles quickly. Sweet, clean malts show up on the nose with some green apple skin, toast, and some low peppery notes. It has a sweet, malt-forward flavor with raisins, figs, fresh bread, slight yeast, and slight clove spiciness. It has no bitterness but is not overly sweet, either. Goes down smooth with a medium body and low carbonation. The nicest dubbel brewed in the U.S. that I've had yet.
