Back in 1979 the folks at Heaven Hill Distilleries filled a handful of new freshly charred American white oak barrels with some of their finest whiskey. It is rare for Bourbon to age in barrels for more than twenty-three years. But these barrels patiently sat for over thirty years. The extra years developed a distinct and complex character that makes them truly one-of-a kind. We filled those barrels with Bourbon County Brand Stout, and then stored them away in our Chicago Barrel House to age for two more years. With these rare barrels from our friends at Heaven Hill we believe this is one of the finest beers we have ever produced. This is Goose Island Rare Bourbon County Brand Stout for 2015

Bottle at share. Black pour, sparse head. Sweet aroma, vanilla, molasses, brown sugar, bourbon. Taste makes for a syrupy sweet booze bomb, sugary and hot. Nice!

2015 Bottle, drank Nov 2022.
Pours jet black. Aromas of chocolate, bourbon, oakiness and hints licorice. Taste is smooth and a tad bit muted. Combination of nose - chocolate, bourbon, oak and licorice with some smokey tobacco. Feel is aligned with traditional BCBS. Would have loved to try this in 2017/2018. Incredible stout.

Pours dark and viscous. Even at 5+ yrs old this beer is spectacular. Good blend of oak, bourbon, and cocoa. Vanilla and tobacco round out the aroma and taste. A wonderful expression of barrel and beer

Thick and chewy. Still some alcohol burn to it even 5 years later. Lots of caramel and molasses, cocoa with the bourbon finish . Aroma with some tobacco and smoked meats. Very nice but I liked rare 10 better.

500 ml bottle into a snifter. Bottled 9/21/15, had 10/24/20.
Pours near black, mostly opaque, with no head or lacing. Aromas of bourbon, oak, char, leather, chocolate, smoke, light vanilla, light tobacco and licorice. Has a spicy, maybe peppercorn like aroma. The flavor also begins with strong bourbon, oak, chocolate, leather, vanilla, malt, some char, light tobacco and licorice, light marshmallow. Has a pretty strong spicy, peppercorn like flavor. Smooth, a very good full body, appropriately carbonated.
Lots of wood and leather, interesting barrels, and a different kind of spiciness that I’m not explaining well. This is very good, but I have a feeling I should have had this earlier. It’s lacking something at this point.
