on cask at the Clybourn brewpub. pours black with a single finger of solid and razor-thin-edged light tan head that remains for the duration. looks excellent in the glass.

aroma is heavy on the roasted malts with a lightly sweet profile and a touch of chocolate as well. very well composed in the nose.

taste is dry and roasted with a mild sweetness and a base of burnt chocolate. well composed with a smooth character and a wonderfully rich profile. finishes smooth and malty with a light dryness after the fact. hoppy on the finish with a lasting dryness as a result.

mouthfeel is medium bodied and silky smooth on the palate with a semi dry finish of residual dry burnt malt. liquid goodness.

drinkability is great. an excellent porter on cask. Goose never fails to brew great beer, and this is no exception. if you find this on cask, don't pass it up! cheers!

(Served in an American pint glass)

A- The beer has a warm dark brown body that is almost black. The head is a creamy light tan that last and last. This beer is too opaque to see any carbonation.

S- The smell of light roasted malt with a hint of some dark roasted malt blends with a slight sour note and a green hop finish.

T- The roasted dark malt is strong at the beginning and then the soft green hop bitterness at the finish. As the beer warms some notes of coffee come through in the finish and a slight tangy flavor from oats or old cask start to come through.

M- This beer has a medium-full mouthfeel with a slippery texture. No astringency or alcohol warmth.

D- The dark roasted grain is very nice but there isn't any other depth to the flavor. I would like to see the American hop flavors stand up to the roasted grain and balance them out. This beer is very drinkable but it looses interest quickly.

Served on draught at the Clybourn location. Reviewed from notes.

Very dark brown/black in color with a thin, brown head. Roasted malts waft up from the brew, followed by a touch of hops.

Taste is more roasted malts, with a touch of coffee and perhaps baker's chocolate. Soft and rolling in the mouth.

This beer is good, but fairly one dimensional.

On cask at Clybourn, served in an imperial pint.

Dark mahoghany almost black, barely lets light through, but a small window appears in the light. Wispy crown of milkshake foam, puffy in the center, tapering lace at the lip of the glass.

Some light char and dusty bakers chocolate in the aroma.

Ashy smoldering campfire, charred malt, definite bitter chocolate, with some residual bitterness from the hops. Apparently Centennial and Chinook, but not much citrus present, just a light bitterness. Drying finish, no hint of the abv whatsoever, my Dutch friend. Body is on the husky side of medium, despite the cask serving, and it's very light in overall feel. Definite balance, fortitude, and sessionability on display. Good stuff that is worthy of another...

There is a god. I'm not a huge porter fan but this one had me hooked. Drank it on cask at the clybourm brewpub in an imperial glass. Rich brown color with a white head that stays present the whole way down. Awesome. Drinkable and as tasty a porter I've had in some time. If u can get your hands on this then get it. No questions.

Pours a black/brown with a hint of red peeking through the very edges. Light tan head dissapates to leave a nice lacing.

Smell is a light mocha.

Taste is a big malty mocha-choco kiss! Slightly sweet and crisp with a hop snap finishing this one off beautifully! Very well integrated.

Mouthfeel is a light prickle with a nice dry roasty flavor leaving a bitterness asking for another sip.

I could drink this all night!

This version is 5.6% ABV, served in a pint glass. Pours an opaque black, some red, small tan head, settles to a ring with some spots of lace. Smell is sweet toffee, some floral hops, pine, chocolate roast, pretty neat. Taste is creamy roast coffee, some chocolate, toffee, big hit of piney hops, bitter finish. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with low carbonation, very smooth, crazy hoppiness, kind of reminds me of the 3F Alpha Klaus, would definately have again.
