This beer poured with a small head that faded into thin wide lacings that gradually dissappeared. Fine and medium bubbles rose from the depths of this almost clear amber with orange-coppery hued beer.
Honeyed toast, and scents of caramel cover but dont obscure the citrusy, piney and tea smells from the hops. A beer that smells this good holds great promise with respect to its taste.
The flavour of this beer lives up to the promise of its aroma. Tastes very similar to the aroma. Honey, toast, hints of caramel/toffee give way to a nicely balanced piney bitterness with a hint of orange pekoe tea. The hoppy bitterness cuts nicely into the sweetness from the malts as demanded by the style.
This beer has body. Its somewhat thick, but not syrupy. The sweetness is near perfectly balanced by the bitter astringincy. The sparkles of bubbles only serve to enhance the experience of this beer.
This is a great beer. A real treat at the end of a hot day. Probably too rich for most to enjoy more than a couple in one sitting, but definately allows for quality over quantity. It is by far and away my favorite American single IPA, and ive had more than a few in this style. This beer has turned me back on to Goose Island, after being silly enough to take the claim on their oatmeal stout bottle seriously that it would make me forget all other oatmeal stouts. It didnt. But this IPA has made all the others ive tried a whole lot less memorable.
